The big one in this case that caused them to slide was strength of schedule and opponents's strength of schedule. USC was very close to getting in. The Gators should have dominated this year but Sissy coach plays that conservatism gay ball and lost to the #1 team when he was up by three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
