sdgregory 0 #26 January 2, 2004 Because guns cannot fly through the air and land of a roof and start a fire or burn up miles of forest land. Secondly even though they are just fireworls they are explosive ordinance and thirdly, some communities do not want to be kept up all night listening to fireworks, so noise ordinances make them illegal. I am sure there are other reasons but those are the ones I have heard. The big problem is that you rarely see people shooting guns indiscriminantly (except me) but unfortunately people tend to be far more irresponsible with fireworks because , hell look at the posts in this thread, they are just fireworks. People forget they are dangerous and treat them like toys.

Now take fire works, they sure are dangerus, but not as mush as guns Stay safe Stefan Faber
sdgregory 0 #29 January 2, 2004 The two do not compare. The kid with the gun did it on purpose and you cannot stop that. The kids with fireworks are just plain unsafe. And noone is saying guns are safer than fireworks. Peoples reaction to guns is different than their reaction to fireworks. Everyone knows guns are dangerous and 99.99999% of people treat them as such. Most people think fireworks are harmless and therefore treat them as such. THAT is why in most places fireworks are illegal. Because people are so irresponsible when using them. This is no about guns being more dangerous it is about peoples attitudes about the two subjects leading to greater accidents. And in most peoples opinion it is not an accident when a person pulls a gun and kills people. The two do not equate.
turtlespeed 226 #30 January 2, 2004 My only question is: How the hell did a Fireworks thread become a Gun thread? Lighten up a bit. (heh, I made a funny) Some people take things WAY to seriously.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
sheldond 0 #31 January 2, 2004 In a way, I do agree. Most people do think fireworks are harmless. This is a huge problem. Seems like there are a lot of people that do not respect both guns and fireworks and the potential dangerous associated with them. How many people in the US own guns? How many keep them loaded and near their bed for easy access? (very bad idea with kids in the house!!!) How many actually keep them locked away and secured? People need to be better educated and taught to respect these, and other potential dangerous goods.
John4455 0 #32 January 2, 2004 I used to be a self contracted pyro-technician for a major fireworks display company. We shot class B display fireworks. Class C, are the fireworks that the kids buy in the stores and stands. Class A explosives, is like dynamite or what not. We would shoot pyro-musicals. Fire works show set to music, programmed on a computerized firing panel. Several years ago I went to Aruba on New Years to do a pyro musical. I found out when I got there that the last 3 days of the year in Aruba, anyone there could buy these class B fireworks like we were shooting. They would go in the store to buy them, go back into the parking lot, and shoot them beside their car. It didn't matter that it was broad daylight and you couldn't see the effect. You would hear booms and bangs all night long. The sponser sent us some labourers to help us and a good many of them were missing fingers from shooting fireworks. Funny thing was that I was wanting to jump there, but at the time, their wasn't a drop zone listed, so I didn't take my rig. When I got on board Air Aruba in Tampa FL, the first thing I saw in the back of the seat pocket of the airline was a ad paper. On the third page was an ad for skydive Aruba. How do ya like it Johnny? kmcguffee 0 #36 January 2, 2004 QuoteSome people take things WAY to seriously. And some people seem to always be making slightly inflamatory attacks just waiting for someone to explode into a fight. I mean, why start harrassing people about guns in a fireworks thread if they are not trying to start a fight? "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do."
