AggieDave 6 #1 December 31, 2003 I was channel surfing today and saw a clip during a skateboard comp of one of the competitors FFing, going HD, sitflying and such. They were interviewing him about jumping before he did his run on the half-pipe and showed a clip of him on the ground at Perris. I didn't catch the name and was kinda curious if he posted here.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
GravityGirl 0 #2 December 31, 2003 Was his name Mathias? I had a student that was a Pro-Skater living in Carlsbad. This was about 4 years ago, so he should be freeflying by now ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
johnnypilot 0 #3 December 31, 2003 I saw the same show you did. The Pro skateboarder/Skydiver is Bob Burnquist. He is a local at Perris. I heard the guy has been jumping since March and already has 2 brand new rigs and over 400 jumps. Must be nice! Shop Smart......Shop S Mart
The111 1 #4 December 31, 2003 Burnquist, as has been pointed out. Mat Hoffman who is arguably the best BMX vert rider alive (and has been since he was 16), is also a semi-current skydiver... he used to do BASE jumps on his bike in Norway, and I read something he wrote about getting recurrent so he could jump with Burnquist.www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Burnquist and Hoffman spent a day jumping at Atlanta Skydiving Center last month with Orly King. Tony Hawk and others on tour stopped in to jump/make tandems as well. There should be an article in next month's Skydiving about all of them...ChutingStar.com

His plan was apparently to get his PRO rating so that he could jump into the X-games opening ceremony.
Maxim 0 #7 December 31, 2003 Bob Burnquist is a great skater he has won a few x games vert comps. seems like a real cool guy he certianlly would have to money to progress fast in skydiving =) Life is Great. Even Greater what we do with it.

I've run into Mat a couple of times in the last few years at the Indian restaurant I go to for lunch occasionally. jdthomas 0 #9 December 31, 2003 I am sure that is bob that you saw. I have been skateborading for 18 years and did all the sponsorship gigs, tours and partys. what hoot. Skateboarding skills helped me along the way in my skydiving. Time, space and balance. Any other skaters out there? AggieDave 6 #10 December 31, 2003 Yeah, and everytime I even walk by a skateboard, I end up hurting myself... Hey, thanks everyone for answering my questions, it was just pretty cool to be flipping, hitting a skateboard thing then seeing someone doing headdown.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." JRock 0 #12 December 31, 2003 Him and Tony Hawk came out to our DZ a few weeks back. Tony did a tandem and our bud Chuck who was the Tandem master is still acting like a little kid who met Santa. Tony gave everyone VIP passes to the Boom Boom Huck Jam.
bclark 0 #13 December 31, 2003 Bob came to my old DZ out in Utah last year and went thru AFF. Also Moto Xr's Travis Pastrana and Kenny Bartram went thru AFF there too. Cool guys.
allisonjr 0 #14 December 31, 2003 Yikes....Bartram and Pastrana....how awesome!!! I'm a big freestyle moto-x fan and those guys rock. I'd love to meet them out at a dz or something one day! Yeah, Burnquist and Hoffman were at Gold Coast a little while back with Orly. They made a few skydives while passing through during the Boom Boom Huck Jam circuit.*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Alli P.M.S. #3 If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions. Laurel 0 #15 December 31, 2003 Yeah - at Summerfest Orly was telling a funny story about Bob getting a little sit fly coaching from Zach Mullins. I wonder what it must feel like to have a 12 year-old tell you what you are doing right/wrong with your freeflying. ..................................................................... FallingILweenie 0 #16 December 31, 2003 you know, i bet those guys have been so good at what they do since they were real young, so they probably can identify with someone like the mullins kids being so good at this so young better than most people. Especially when he is friends with the FlyBoyz and mostly only jumps with them. He is getting a lot of experience fast!Dom
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
