Darius11 12 #1 December 31, 2003 I am trying to do a full system restoration (long story) But before i do that i want to save all my Mp3 and other files. I don't know if there is a free program out there that i can use to zip the file so i can burn it on a disk. I have about 3 gigs of Mp3. I have WinZip but the free version will only Unzip and it will not zip. Please let me know if there is a better way to do this? My OS is windows 98 Pentium 3 processor. Old gateway but it has never let me down in 6 years. PhreeZone 20 #3 December 31, 2003 What are you going to use as the meduim for your back up? CD? DVD? Floppy? If you are using Cd's just make a few CD's with files on them. CD's hold 650 megs or a bit over half a gig. There is no way to compress 3 gig's of mp3's to fit on a CD.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

CrazyIvan 0 #5 December 31, 2003 Ok dude, first of all, I don't know what kind of WinZip you have, the FREE version allows to Zip AND Unzip. Second, 3 GB of MP3 will be a huge file since MP3 are ALREADY compressed. but, you can also create CHUNKS so you can fit them on several CD's__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. TitaniumLegs 8 #6 December 31, 2003 No kidding. At 128kbps it's already compressed ~10:1. DVD would be a good choice if you really need it on one disk. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
Markj 0 #7 December 31, 2003 You can't really zip mp3's as they are in compressed format already. you can zip them if you want but they won't get much smaller at all, you should defintely be able to zip files with the freE version of winzip though. Sure there is, delete all the songs that are broken/copies, then delete all the songs not in your playlist...then I bet you'll wittle it down to 650mb or less.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." WFFC 1 #12 December 31, 2003 Quoteok i guess i was just being lazy. didn't want to spend 3 hours I am using a normal CD. God i need a new PC. Easy solution, get a second hard drive and copy all your data files to it. No O.S. on the drive, no need to worry about it getting wiped (unless you screw up)
NZL60 0 #13 December 31, 2003 98 has a default backup solution.. not very good but it's there.. I'm assuming your cd is at least CD-R and if using Winzip you can check the setting that allows you to span multiple CD's that way you don't have to care about how small the zip file is.
