Skyrose7 0 #31 December 29, 2003 I say it is for all of the things everyone listed. I know it saved the life of one of my buddies in a mid-air collision. I have never jumped w/out one and don't think I ever will. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. whatever 0 #32 December 29, 2003 QuoteMy bonehead (I mean the helmet) has some scratches that would have looked pretty nasty on my other bonehead. Not sure what they're from, but I've been known to do some funky exits occasionally. dude, it's probably from that time you 'exited' that Cessna and you made that loud thumping noise on the way out! soon to be gone
whatever 0 #33 December 29, 2003 Quoteactually a better question would be........Why do kamikaze pilots wear helmets...? oooh, ooh, I know, I know.... it's for in case they take out your plane but you're still on trajectory, you can do max damage with a suitable helmet.... I think this thread would make a great poll.... here's some of the options you want: -because regulations require it -because it keeps my head warm -to mount a camera on -to hold audibles -to sticker -to protect my head in the plane -to protect my head on exit -to protect my head in freefall -to protect my head under canopy -because it looks cool -to keep my sunglasses on -to set an example for students etc. just my 2 cents... soon to be gone
vonSanta 0 #34 December 29, 2003 Whatever, is that a TSOM "I was wrong" song quote ya got in your sig file? If so; coolness. vonSanta 0 #36 December 29, 2003 Dammit, TSOM - I still listen to ole' Andrew and the gang. Andrew will say he's definitely not a goth though. Check out this clicky for his view of evolution . The TSOM cover of "Gimme Shelter" is one of my favs. "Heartland" is definitely up there in the top too. Shite. I may hate all the gimmicky mascara/white painted face, clothes and fashion statement stuff, but I sure as hell love much of the music. Hand me one of them Goth numbers, will ya? RippedCord 0 #37 December 29, 2003 What would I say it for? Five bucks, or maybe just as a vocal warm up exercise. Let's try it: "A skydiver wears a helmet." Nightingale 0 #42 December 29, 2003 hehe... conversation I had with my friend Christopher when he was a tandem passenger and I was doing AFF. Chris: How come I don't get a helmet? Me: You're falling from 12,500 feet. How much good do you really think a helmet's going to do you? Chris: oh... yeah...true... but YOU wear one! Me: Because my landings suck, and I can hit my head on the door on the way out, and bump into my JM in freefall and all that. If YOU hit your head on the door, your TM's still fine, and you'll land fine. You don't get a helmet because if you freak out in freefall and tip your head back fast, you're gonna KO your TM, and you don't know how to pull and that would be bad. Him: Oh. That makes sense, I guess. lol. he's starting AFF in January.

happythoughts 0 #48 December 29, 2003 In the summer, all the collected snot dries out and crumbles into flakes. Then, it blows around inside your visor during freefall. Reminds you of winter again. Kind of artistic in a way, isn't it?

Guest #50 December 29, 2003 Having come very, very close to leaving tooth marks in someone else's container whilst in freefall, I became a firm believer in helmets, especially the full-face variety. mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
