sunnydee123 0 #1 December 23, 2003 Well how about this for bad timing....have had some shoulder "ourchies" the last few months, went to doc who said I had an inpingement (fancy name for inflammation), take meds, don't work so go to physical therapy.....ends up I have a rotator cuff "issue" and it was recommended I "take it easy" for a few weeks.....all of this 2 days before I am to leave for Eloy and jump my ass off! What the hell.....I am babying the shoulder but I know it is there....SHIT IN A HAT! So looks like I might not be able to jump like a mad woman seeing has after about 3 or 4 jumps I don't move the shoulder so well. Oh wait, did I mention it is the frigin RIGHT shoulder (pull arm)........So if you see me in Eloy making funny faces, hoping no one sees cause I look like a retard trying to get my jumpsuit on/off or my rig over the shoulder - help a sista out - would ya.....As long as my pull hand works, I can suck up a little pain to jump. Anyone else ever "sucked it up" for the sake of jumping? Am I a bad girl for not taking the docs "recommendation"?.....well, there is something to say about being "bad" from time to time Dreams become reality, one choice at a time... Casie 0 #2 December 23, 2003 Hey Girlie...your man's going; right? I'm sure he'll be helping ya out every way possible! I'd take what the doc said into some serious consideration. I've known a couple of skydivers who went ahead & jumped & it made it worse.........................BE CAREFUL! skybytch 273 #3 December 23, 2003 QuoteAnyone else ever "sucked it up" for the sake of jumping? Yup. Adrenalin covers pain well. When my back was screwed up I knew it was really time to stop jumping and that I probably really needed to go to the doctor when it started to hurt in freefall. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #4 December 23, 2003 :( I would tell you to listen to your doctor, but i'd be a hypocrite. I continually put stress on things that need healing time. It is definitely not a smart idea, tho. Hope you feel better soon, Dee. Angela.
sunshine 2 #5 December 23, 2003 Dee, it's not wise to take chances with your pull arm. Go ahead and jump, but there's no reason to overdo it. Will be plenty of other fun things going on, and just visiting with peeps is good. Ever heard of the girl that had a mal but since her right shoulder was messed up she couldn't cut it away and had to rely on the cypres fire? I've never heard of her either....let's keep it that way.... ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! Nightingale 0 #6 December 23, 2003 I would highly suggest a trip to your local chinese herb shop for some tiger balm or tiger liniment. the liniment is like an oil and is very strong. I think it works much better than the balm, which is like a waxy lotion, but they both work well for aches and muscle soreness.

PhreeZone 20 #9 December 23, 2003 I'd avoid placing the sholder in a position that could cause additional stress and injury. Unfortunatually that means that flying headdown probally should be avoided unless you are flying arms pulled in. Sitflying is'nt a great idea either. Those two positions put a lot of extra stress on the sholder and the muscles there.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skydivegirl 0 #10 December 23, 2003 QuoteAnyone else ever "sucked it up" for the sake of jumping? YA! I twisted my knee landing early in the week at Rantoul this year. The ER doc said I probably tore 2 ligaments, slapped on a big ass brace, and handed me some crutches & said see ya! It didn't hurt very bad at all after about 24 hrs and I could walk on it somewhat so I bought a smaller brace from Wal-mart and kept on jumping... I just slid in my landings. It may have been stupid but as it turned out the ER doc was wrong (I don't think he liked jumpers very much) and nothing was torn. So I think it was worth it .Pink Mafia Sis #
Nightingale 0 #11 December 23, 2003 Yep... Sunny, if you want to try the tiger liniment and can't find it, let me know, and I'll see if someone from around here's heading to Eloy (dunno if Rosa's left yet...) and send some along. I need to go back up to chinatown and pick some up for myself anyway, so let me know by tomorrow morning if you want me to grab some for you too. jejejelle 0 #13 December 23, 2003 i have an idea.... you need: a good rigger a big hook knife some luck load of cash just jump.. but go for silver everytime... you`ll need te hook knife to cut away and pull the "reserve" not an good idea? :P or try : after every jump cool your shoulder for at least 10 minutes with ice. might help reduce/keep away the pain. happythoughts 0 #17 December 23, 2003 Be really careful with shoulder injuries. Take care of it now, so that it will not come back to haunt you. Don't let fun right now mess up your future.
harryskydives 0 #18 December 23, 2003 Hey Sunny: Cheri the massage therapist will be in Eloy. You might want to see her early and often. Most 4-8 way competitors will tell you they have jumped injured, shoulder injurys are very common. Flying in a mantis position relieves a lot of stress on the shoulder. Stay away from stuff like Stardian, photon. If you are boogie jumping and the load organizer has you doing something that might put a lot of stress on your shoulder, tell him during the dirt dive, he will understand. Hope your shoulder get better. PS this time tomorrow is should be in freefall. Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
