It just doesn't feel like Christmas:(

Recommended Posts

I always look forward to this holiday. Decorations, shopping, togetherness. But, this year it just doesn't feel like Christmas:(

There isn't as much holiday decor everywhere as I remember there to be in previous years.

Maybe since my family and I decided only to get a couple gifts for the kids, and not to exchange amongst ourselves, the lack of shopping is what makes me feel this way.

maybe it is the 12 hr days i'm working.

Maybe I miss my dogs that I gave up this year.

Whatever it is, it just isn't xmas this year:(

Awww, sorry to hear that:(. I love the Holidays too. Try listening to holiday music, look at decorations, and if you can......enjoy some children and try to see the lights, decorations, etc. through their eyes. I think part of it might be that it is getting too commercialized:(. I do agree the lack of shopping for that special gift takes a lot of fun out of shopping. What we do, is draw names between the adults, but everyone still buys for the children. Missing your dogs is hard....I won't have my dog with us this season either. It was so fun watching him open his own present:D. You can't do much about your long work days, but try to take in all the season has to offer when you do get off work.

Angela,

I know how you feel. I lived in Florida all my life till February 2000. And I always got into Christmas. We moved to Ohio because my wife is from here and I wanted my kids to have snow for Christmas.

We had a rough first two years here and so Christmas was meager. The last two years we have had a little better finances but somehow I do not feel as Christmasy as I did in Florida. I thought for sure it would feel more so up north. I am having a hard time feeling the whole build up like I used to.[:/]

Maybe it is the winter blues taking hold. Man I need to fall out of a beat up old plane. . .

You guys are great! I get to watch the kids in the family open presents on x-mas eve, i'm sure that will be fun. Maybe it is the xmas blues, I am just feeling like christmas is coming and going too quickly, I only heard holiday music at Outback Steakhouse, I don't hear it anywhere else. And, there just aren't lights. I don't see them anywhere. Maybe it is my lack of commute that keeps me from seeing the lights, I guess my route to work/home is just an unscenic one with no neighborhoods.

Maybe I should go to the mall and get a picture with Santa:)

the lack of shopping is what makes me feel this way.

This is why women are from Venus and man are from Mars. If a man can avoid a lot of shopping for presents he would be happy. A female gets depressed....;)

I wish you very happy Christmas.

Wow, I hear holiday music everywhere. (Maybe a little too much) To me, it seems more people, at least here, have put up lights outside. Maybe you should drive around to some neighborhoods to see some lights:)
And definitely go to the mall to see Santa and get your picture taken, or take your camera and let them take a picture for you. We took my 2 1/2 yr. old grandson and they saw I had a camera, so they used my camera for the picture. We even got in a couple of the pictures. I haven't gotten them developed yet, so I don't know if they are any good:S.

I'm with you, Angela. I don't know of plans for anyone to go caroling and even around the office the atmosphere is more "business as usual" than holiday cheer. The whole Al Quida thing is getting out of hand, too. (I think they had a hand in the earthquake today. They seem to be suspected in everything else...) It's a bummer that the spirit seems dampened this year.

On the bright side, Christmas decorations seem more unique and colorful this year.

Blue skies and happy landings!

I'm not feeling too festive myself this year. I buried a good friend today and we just got news my aunt passed away. Her funeral is Friday.:( This is the first year that I actually want the holidays over. I usually love Christmas, but I'm just not into it this year. Looking forward to 2004.[:/]

Hang in there girl! It's all about family and friends. Spending time with them is the most precious gift of all.:)

Not too jolly myself. My grandmother is about to pass away. I keep getting calls that she won't make it through the night. I'm especially worried about my grandpa. He's 94 (she's 97) and they've been together forever. Breaks my heart to think of either one living without the other. On top of that, I am single and lonely and won't be spending the holidays with family. I was planning on spending the week at the dz to distract myself and for some rockin' jumps (the weather is beautiful) but I've got this killer flu bug and I would rather be dead than feel this horrible. Please, someone, put me out of my misery!:(

Oh yeah, and happy holidays.:S

Angela,

I feel the same way you do. I guess it has something to do with the retailers putting out Christmas stuff in October. And everything costing so much as well as the problems in my world.

Oh, gosh! I feel like such an ass for not being in the spirit. Nothing this terrible is going on around me, thank goodness. I am so sorry for your grandparents, Dove. I hope she is ok, or at least that she passes without pain. I am sorry for your grandpa:(

I know what you mean. My boyfriend is going away for the holiday. So, while i'm not single, I will be lonely:( I hope you get rid of the flu, sweety! That is terrible. Seems like everyone around me has been sick. I am lucky so far, but I am pretty scared, man.

Oh, honey, happy holidays to YOU. Keep your head up, ok! You girls are so strong, hang in there.

xoxo.
Angela.

Warm Christmas ((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) for all of you.

This is my 3 Chritsmas alone. After MANY years of Family gatherings, Tons of gifts for the kids and even occasional snow leaving the Christmas Eve candle service...these past years have been tough.
I have EVERYTHING to be happy about and thankful for...but Im still in a very low mood.

Not for lack of Christmas music, I hear it all day at work... Not because I haven't finished my shopping, its all done and wrapped and I Will be spending Christmas Day with my daughters and their boyfriend and fiance, as well as my family....
but still it doesn't Feel like Christmas.

Dove, get over that bug soon. The rest of you.. I hope your bah hum Bug goes away too and that all of you find some Christmas Joy.

Thanks for the well wishes! This is by far the worst flu I've ever had.B|

What a coincidence. This is my 3rd Christmas alone too. For some reason it's harder this year than it was the last two. At least you get to spend the actual day with family. I'm hoping to be well (and non-contagious) enough so I can at least go to the dz and hang with friends.

Have a beautiful holiday everyone!:)

Please do not get me wrong, I have tons of Christmas joy. I jest do not get the big thrill I used to. I really think winter disagrees with me. Maybe I should move back to Florida. . . then I could be jumping.

yes, that's true. At least I can go jump this weekend. I need to look at the bright side of things. :)

I know what you mean. I'm kind of in a "bah-humbug" mood. I still have presents to buy for people but I really don't want to go out in the madness. It seems to get worse every year. Eh, but then again, I plan to go to Florida (probably Z-hills) between Christmas and New Year's. Trips of that sort always lift my spirits :)

For many years, Christmas has just been yet another day for me. Many years.

I really like January. All the hype is gone, all the "I can't afford to give anyone anything nice this year, sorry" while they are handing me gifts and telling me it doesn't matter...It does matter. It matters very much that I can't give those I love representations of my love and appreciation for them. It makes a huge difference when I can show them my love...and not just tell them. And so, it sucks.

I hate the pressure, the pace, the angry attitudes, the overworked clerks at stores getting yelled at because the Barbie little Jane wanted isn't in stock any more. I hate the holiday frenetic pace, the reckless driving, the selfish, materialistic behavior I've seen.

I would love to find a quiet chapel, a place undecorated, unadorned, and go there at midnight Christmas Eve. Just to feel the quiet worship, the solitary respect, that this day is supposed to be for. Just to feel the love in a quiet spot, just me and God, alone for a brief moment. It is not existant, this place, not anywhere I know.

Ciels-
Michele
