TomAiello 26 #26 December 22, 2003 QuoteDamage should NOT be bad. 6.5ish earthquakes will wake you up, but rarely bring much off of walls and definately shouldn't cause any building damage. Yeah, I know. I've been in that area in slightly worse earthquakes, a bit further away (since I lived there for my first 18 or so years, I'm pretty used to them). Still, my parents are old folks now, and I worry so...-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

rmsmith 1 #29 December 22, 2003 QuoteThe other problem is that it is prime tsunami and lanslide territory out there on the central coast QuoteYeah it is. And there's way too many houses through Cayucos, Cambria and San Simeon with nothing between them and the ocean. In San Luis Obispo there is a two story unreinforced place called SLO Brew near Bubble Gum Alley. I wouldn't want to be inside it during a good shake. In fact the area is home to many unreinforced structures that escaped seismic upgrades due to the area's dismal economy.
quade 4 #30 December 22, 2003 KSBY reporter via phone interview with KNBC is saying that she has heard of reports of at least three older historical buildings being damaged near Paso Robles & Cambria, but she had no real information on the extent. She is also reporting small power outages. Reporters are going around looking for damage.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

bshl 0 #39 December 22, 2003 Those of us in the middle of the state always expect earthquakes to hit north and south. This ain't fair! I hope Hearst Castle fares all right. Michele 1 #40 December 22, 2003 Interesting series of aftershocks. Not just local...A 3+ in Bakersfield, and now a 3+ in Cajon Pass (that is the "elbow" of the San Andreas fault). Nothing is "moving" north. Hrm. I wonder if they'll get down into my neighborhood...??? Also: Fire in Cambria, and a winery had some injuries when the wine barrels fell on them. bshl 0 #49 December 22, 2003 Talked to friends in Santa Maria. Power's out and the stores are a mess. Listening to a live feed from MSNBC, someone from Cambria called and said Hwy 46 has cracks and is no longer flat (he estimated 6-12" differences in height at some cracks). Templeton has reported a building collapse but I haven't heard anything definite on it. Jewelry store in Paso Robles completely collapsed No news from Diablo nuclear power plant (which sits on the San Andreas fault) 40 aftershocks Edited to add the last snippet. Blue skies and happy landings!
Michele 1 #50 December 22, 2003 If you felt it, even just a little bit, the USGS has a page where you can report it. The only identifying information required is a zip code. Please go Here to report it. The information gathered is used to understand the different aspects of earthquakes, the energy dispersal, etc. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
