Airborne03 0 #51 September 5, 2003 Deland...there isnt much that cant be said about this place. I have only jumped at two drop zones in my whole life, not counting Ft. Benning with the Army, and I feel that deland has everything to offer. One day after a long day of jumping, I had the oppritunity to go out to dinner with Ray himself, and some other workers from deland and the surrounding area. We had italian food and sat and drank some wine talking way beyond the hours of the resturant. I barely had 50 jumps there and for a very professional dropzone where most people say that unless you have 1000 jumps you arent nothing, this is a lie. I have met great friends out there and there is always something to do. The staff is great there including the resturant which is always a nice welcomed break from the summer rain storms. The pilots are great along with the planes they fly. There is always something to do, if you want to free fly you can talk to Jimmy or Hunter, do canopy work with Scott Miller, do RW stuff with Cromy or anything you even want to do. It has an amazing view of Daytona Beach from 13,500 which makes for some fun hop and pops from the top at the end of the day. If you cant find something to do or someone to jump with at Deland then you are just not asking or not trying. I jumped all summer there while they were in "slow time" and we still managed to keep the plane flying days with jsut free flyers which can go to show you that its not a team DZ. Its a DZ, and you make it what it is. From what I have seen, the Teams help make the DZ busy, and they are predictable that they will keep the plane flying till a certain time. If free flyers or fun jumpers would do the same thing Im sure you could call it a "fun jumper" DZ. But in the long run, DeLand is a great place, ive so far made my first jump (tandem) and AFF, and 100th jumps there. And I still have fun everytime doing it! Blue Skies!!!! And Go Army! chopchop 0 #52 September 5, 2003 Maybe it was just timing.. but in the few times I have made it to Deland, I was glad to have hooked up with out-of-town jumpers cuz the locals were all on teams and if you didn't know who was who in 4-way.. yuck!, you were just not worthy.. chopchop gotta go... Plaything needs a spanking.. Lotsa Pictures
frankiebrina 0 #53 December 22, 2003 My opinion is about the same as the majority in this post. I've recently moved to the US from Brazil and have only gone to Deland since then. It's been about a year know since i've moved and of all the times i've been there it was just about 2 weeks ago that finally I jumped a 2-way with a skydiver from germany that was misplaced as I was. Still it is a very organized DZ but I was jumping less and less due to fact that I was doing only solos. There is a boogie planned from the 23rd threw the 6th of January 2004, I'm planning to give it a try to see if I will meet a few people and get myself in some jumps. I haven't gone to sebastian or ZHills witch are farther away from my home but I assume after what I have read in this post that If I don't have luck with Deland I will have to drive the extra miles. One thing that I've noticed is that these other DZ's promote fun activities like helicopter jumps, lower cost on certain days on jump tickets and fun activities. You can see all this in there calendars on there websites. While Deland's calendar practically has only official AFF training, Swoop competition and other " SERIOUS" stuff. Thomson 0 #54 December 22, 2003 Ray, Skydive Deland is in my opinion THE BEST DROPZONE IN THE WORLD ****** I have been there many times and allways had Fun. Why do i say that it is the best Place to jump: 1) THE MUM of Bob makes the best Cookies in the World. 2) The BOSS and Management are Professionals. 3) THE WHOLE STAFF including you are very nice, friendly, worldclass, open people taking care about everybodys needs. ( Having more jump expiriance than any other Dropzone) 4) THE PLANES the safest cleanest and fastest Jumpships i ever jumped out. (Cockpitscreen allways clean). 5) THE PILOTS are Professionals. Never saw a place where Pilots look out for other Air Traffic as much as in De Land. Never had a barrol roll in a twin otter only in De Land (Name of Pilot not published). 6) THE PERFECT SPOT (Restaurant and Bar) Outstanding, with beautifull Staff, Tvs, Internet acsess and opened from Dusk to Dawn. 7) THE PACKERS AND RIGGERS Great People save Professionals working Faster than Lightspeed. 8) THE DROPZONE Very clean, everything a Skydiver needs washing mashines, showers, bathroooms, Bunkhouse, Camping on THE DROPZONE. 9) THE SHOP Has everything for skydiving needs. 10) THE MANIFEST Professionals which have no problem to get you in the best load untill you spend your last Buck. 11) THE COMPANYS The World best Skydiving Equippment is made in De Land. And THE WINGSUIT from Jary aswell. 12) THE CAT (blacky) Allways frienly if you give her food 13) THE GIRLS To sexy for me. 14) THE TUNNEL Very close. That are some of the reasons i would say it is fun to be in De Land and not anywhere else. THOMSON-------------------------------------------------- I LOVE THE CUTAWAY HANDLE OF TONYS VECTOR! People that dont know any better might read it and think we do acrobatics on the way up to altitude. Thanks for your reply, this is kinda the reply I was hoping to have, I love Deland and from negative feedback about Team factory blah blah, I wanted to hear peoples opinion. Actually Bob impressed the hell out of me yesterday when a tandem master wanted to do a back to back, he told me he hated that kind of stuff, and when someone does something as rememerable as their first jump he wants them to think about how well they were treated, not how fast they were unhooked and forgotten. Definitely one thing good about Deland is the owner Bob, If anyone ever there doesn't have someone to jump with Bob will always volunteer. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of! When I got there I did the waver thing put some money on account and got ready for some fun. Unfortunatly there where alot of teams training and no one really doing any "fun" jumps. Since I was there by myself and didn't really know anyone, I was hoping to get on a LO load. Well there wasn't anyone orginazing so that plan wasn't going to work. God, I didn't think ANY DZ could be that stupid in this day and age. I've never been to Deland and was only at Z-Hills once in the seventies (THAT was fun...). But what you're describing reminds me of the OLD Elsinore back in the seventies. A skygod heaven where the rest of us mere mortals could wait 'til hell froze over. That attitude was a major contributing factor to the growth of Perris, which was just a struggling shack DZ in the middle of nowhere at the time. It didn't take too long for the Conatsers to come iun and figure out that all they had to do was make jumpers feel WELCOME. And I don't mean any of this to apply to the current operation at Elsinore either, the place has changed 180 degrees into a wonderful and welcoming operation, after a few floods cleansed it of eyesores like the trailer ghetto. But I can't believe that ANY DZ with an eye on its future doesn't have some LO's on their staff. Whatever line of business your in, drop zone or whatever, the day you get comfy with what you've got is the beginning of the end. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !
