coconutmonkey 0 #2 December 18, 2003 While the proliforation of trivial litigation in this country drives me nuts sometimes, I think a suit for traumatization of a minor (possibly class action) would be in order. Possibly a discrimination since they are singling out individuals instead of wasting their resources on everyone evenly. Very little respect for anyone who targets minors to further their own agendas. Lee03 0 #3 December 18, 2003 YES, this is going too far! If I had kids, and if one of those peta fuckers put a pamplet/flyer or whatever else in my kids hand, saying this about the child's mother/my wife, I'd find the son of a bitch that did it, an kick his worthless ass! That individual could very well find himself on the endangered species list, if he tried this with my kid!! -------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule
billvon 3,049 #4 December 18, 2003 >I think a suit for traumatization of a minor (possibly class action) >would be in order. Nonsense. They have as much right to do that as abortion foes have to show pictures of late-term abortions, or of war protesters to show pictures of the dead. You may not agree with them, but they have a right to say what they want.

diablopilot 2 #6 December 18, 2003 Yeah they are going a bit too far for my tastes, but they are entitled to the extremly dumb opinion! Personaly I think I'll just bring a bag of road kill to the next performance of the Nutcracker I attend, and hand samples out to the PETA extremists.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Or just bring them a sack of burgers. If they don't want them, hand them out to whoever wants them. Better yet - offer to give out a free fur hat to anyone who brings them one of those little cards. That would drive them nuts. "The more cards you hand out, the more rabbits die!"

They have as much right to do that as abortion foes have to show pictures of late-term abortions, or of war protesters to show pictures of the dead. You may not agree with them, but they have a right to say what they want. If PETA wants to protest fur, that's fine, but IMHO this is completely crossing the line. Arguing against your abortion comparison, I don't believe that I have ever heard of pro-lifers marketing directly at small children. If I were to hear about a pro-life protest aimed at scaring little kids I would disagree with that as well.

billvon 3,049 #12 December 18, 2003 >Arguing against your abortion comparison, I don't believe that I >have ever heard of pro-lifers marketing directly at small children. Are you kidding? They market dolls to kids that say "Thank you for not aborting me." The key here is that seven year olds generally can't buy them without their parents help, so it is the parents, rather than the children, who decide whether their kid gets the doll. Same here. I've taken nieces and nephews into NYC, and no one puts anything in their hands without me (or their parents, or their grandfather) OKing it. They're not hanging out at school playgrounds and doing this at recess. If their parents don't want to take a flier, fine. If they try to force it on a kid against the parent's stated wishes, call a cop. But there's nothing wrong with them standing there offering them to whoever wants to read them. turtlespeed 221 #13 December 18, 2003 Actually, wouldn't they be in a position to be prosecuted for false advertising? billvon 3,049 #18 December 18, 2003 >Actually, wouldn't they be in a position to be prosecuted for false >advertising? No more so than someone who says "Abortion doctors commit murder." It's clear what their point is. Anyone who eats meat or wears fur or leather uses dead animals for their own purposes, and either kills them or pays other people to do it for them. (I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but they do.) >Not to mention Libel, Slander, emotional abuse of a child, lude >behavior? I'm sure their opponents will try to get them on such charges; I hope they fail. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and has the right to publically express it, no matter how offensive or dumb it is. BTW often in cases like this, PETA _wants_ lawsuits. They want to be on the front pages of papers making their case, and offending people is one good way to do it. The best approach is generally to ignore them. turtlespeed 221 #19 December 18, 2003 Quote No more so than someone who says "Abortion doctors commit murder." It's clear what their point is. Well a sign telling me that my mother kills animals is different, because, well, she doesn't. On the other hand, "Abortion doctors commit murder", is so much closer to the truth than a slanderous comment made by way of a flier. So, that would also mean that you advocate literature being dispersed by NAMBLA, right?I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
Kennedy 0 #20 December 18, 2003 I'll ignore them, right up to the point where they show one of those to my little cousins. While I'm home [north Jersey] I plan on taking some of then into NYC. They know not to take anything or talk to someone that I'm not talking to, but if one of these is pressed into their hands, there will be an issue. QuoteI'm sure their opponents will try to get them on such charges; I hope they fail. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and has the right to publically express it, no matter how offensive or dumb it is. Tell that to the administrators at UMCP. billvon 3,049 #21 December 19, 2003 >On the other hand, "Abortion doctors commit murder", is so much >closer to the truth than a slanderous comment made by way of a flier. Doctors do not commit murder; murder is illegal and abortions are not. 99.99% of people kill animals, from spiders and ants to mice to rats to (on occasion) deer, rabbits and larger animals, with weapons from cars to guns. So you're right, one is a lie and one isn't. >So, that would also mean that you advocate literature being >dispersed by NAMBLA, right? I do not advocate it; I believe they have a right to offer their opinion. This is america. And if you feel compelled to read such literature, you have that right as well. I don't know why anyone would though.
