SWENSON, Californian staff writer e-mail: sswenson@bakersfield.com Posted: Wednesday December 17th, 2003, 11:00 PM Last Updated: Wednesday December 17th, 2003, 11:50 PM A Bakersfield prostitute turned the tables on a would-be sexual attacker Monday after he allegedly pulled a knife on her. The woman fought back, took the knife away, stripped him, paraded him in front of other prostitutes and tried to take him to the police station while he was naked, according to police reports. The man, Adrian Castillo Ramirez, 45, is charged with committing forcible sex acts on the 24-year-old as well as on a 37-year-old woman in a previous incident. He pleaded innocent Wednesday and was ordered to return to Superior Court on Dec. 30 and 31 for further hearings. Judge Lee Felice set his bail at $250,000. It is Californian policy to withhold the identifications of victims in sexual assault cases. The younger woman told police she agreed to exchange sex for money with Ramirez before he threatened her. Ramirez, who according to reports was convicted of four counts of rape in 1988, was also charged with failing to register as a sex offender and filing a false report when he called police after the scuffle with the 24-year-old and told them he had been carjacked. The woman told police she fought and wrestled with Ramirez, cutting his cheek with his own knife, reports say. The woman is 5 feet 7 inches, 275 pounds, while Ramirez is 5 feet 5 inches, 140 pounds, reports say. The woman said Ramirez drove up to her after midnight Monday at Third and Donna streets. Reports say she agreed to a sex act for pay, got in his car and directed him to some nearby railroad tracks. But instead he drove to a field at Casa Loma Drive and Cottonwood Road and locked the doors, the report said. The woman told police Ramirez pulled a knife and threatened to stab her if she didn't perform a sex act with him. She initially complied under duress, but then became angry and fought back, the report said. She told police she punched his face, got the knife and forced him to take off his clothes. Then, according to the report, she drove him to other places where prostitutes work and asked women if any of them had been forced at knifepoint to have sex. Two women said they had, she told police. She began to drive Ramirez to the Police Department, but the car ran out of gas at fourth and L streets, according to the reports. When she allowed him to put on a pair of sweatpants, the fighting began again and he broke free and fled, she told police. The woman said she slashed his tires and kept his keys, later giving them to police. Awhile later, Ramirez called police from his home in the 1300 block of Murdock Street and claimed he was carjacked by two men in a parking lot near Union and California avenues. But officers said details in Ramirez's story didn't add up. They learned that his car had been found and that the woman had reported the incident, and they recalled a similar report by the 37-year-old woman on Dec. 8. She had given a similar description of Ramirez's car, appearance and clothing, the reports say, giving police reason to arrest him. Later at the station, the younger woman picked Ramirez from six photographs of possible suspects. The women, victims of the alleged crimes, aren't expected to be charged for engaging in prostitution.
