Forum member kills dog. News at 11

Recommended Posts

So I just got back from lunch with one of the regulars here, Tuna. During the meal he tells me one of the funniest stories I have ever heard. He was jogging today and a wild dog (didn't say what breed) came out of the woods and chased him. Rob jumps up on a garbage dumpster to get away. Apparantly this dog was violent. He sits there for 20 minutes while the dog continues to try and get on top of the dumpster. So what does Rob do? He shoots it. I thought he was kidding at first. He actually shot this dog.

So make sure you call the Humane Society and rag him for it. He said he called the police to clear him of any wrong doing. Still funny shit.

I'm a little curious about this kind of thing. How difficult is it for the average male to use non-lethal force against a single dog, even a ferocious breed ?

Perhaps I'm being naive, but I'm optimistic about my chances one-on-one with the average rottweiler, doberman etc. and I'm not a particularly tough person. Of course I'd suffer minor injuries too.. but I think I would "win".. and possibly even claim damages from it's owner.

Has anyone here defended themselves against an attacking dog unarmed ? Was it a big deal ?

What about the next person? Maybe a kid on a bike. Happened to me. Delivering papers and dragged off a bike. I wish someone had whacked that one before it located me.

The world is all stocked up on dangerous dogs. One less is ok.

My family has had lots of Dobermans.

You would lose.

Your family would collect life insurance.

End of story.

I'd like to see you win 'unarmed' against a police dog..

Did you ever see the video of the big dude on PCP who, after the cops turned the K-9 loose on him, he pried the dog off his arm and literally threw the dog back at the cops.....unbelievable.

What piece do you carry when you go jogging? My CC piece is a springfield arms .45 ultra compact...hardly small enough to take jogging.

I normally carry either a Para Ordnance C6-45LDA(aka Para Carry) or a Glock 30. When jogging, I carry a KelTec .32. Small caliber, but it's the placement that really counts.

and their condition.

I think for most larger breeds, that's the catch. I've been chased by dogs a few times (when I was a kid), definately didn't like it.

Oh, who doesn't go jogging without a weapon?

I love animals! But I was attacked by 5 wild dogs on a beach in mexico late at night a few yrs back. I wish that I had a gun then!

I wouldn't have had to run so fast to the nearest driftwood stick on the beach to defend myself against them.

You know that when a dog attacks people without cause - It is put down.. What's the difference?

Depends on the dog. Retreiver, lab, even german sheperd - I'd stand a pretty good chance. Rottweiler, boxer - nope. It also depends on their training and their condition.

Agree. I used to train/work with German sheperds in military and spent most of my childhood next to all kinds of hunting dogs. It is much easier to deal with trained dog (if you know how to do it);) In most of the cases I will probably calm down any dog trying to attack without using force but if time is limited and the god is in very aggressive mood it is better to escape or shoot.

Lol, ok...let me clear the record. First off let's all agree Pluto has a big mouth and more loose-lipped than a bunch of old women in a sewing circle. Secondly, I love dogs. Love all animals for that matter. Third, I fired two warning shots at the dog (it was a pit bull) hoping to scare it away. It kept trying to get on top the dumpster. The third shot was the head shot.

And yes, I carry a sidearm on me all the time...jogging, doing errands, grocery shopping, church, mowing the lawn, airports...everywhere.

Well there you have it. Didn't want you all to think I was some animal abuser. And the local police were notified immediately. The officer actually laughed and found it amusing.

While living in El Paso in 95 I needed cash and I did a little dog training......well, I was the guy wearing this big suit and my job was to fight a little and let the dog attack me. Well, the first dog was a German Shepard and that was a little scary and fun......the second dog was a big fuckin Rot that was about 2 years old and really full of himself...........that was the end of that job!;)
