Question - why not just put Howdy Doody on the dime? Or why not just a steaming pile of shit like the great communicator himself? (maybe we should save that image for GW Bush?)

I vote against putting Reagan's likeness on anything else. I'm not against Reagan, but I think he's got enough stuff named after him.

I don't think it's unreasonable to put former US presidents on our currency. They were, after all, influential leaders of our country whether they were popular or not. Hey, we put indian guides, Sioux chiefs and flag manufacturers on our money; why not a few more presidents?

We could put him on the 75-cent piece. I don't think that had a president on it.

Personally, I want to be on the 69-cent piece.

Uh huh, and we've never changed the president on a particular currency for another one. Nope, never ever. And "perfectly good" is an opinion. I know plenty of folks who think Reagan was and is "perfectly good." The man was good at what he did, you have to give him that.

In general, I don't have a problem with dead presidents on my money (though "In God We Trust" makes me sick). But if a president is to grace our currency or Mount Rushmore or whatever, shouldn't it be one who was not just a stupid, clueless puppet who read his lines for the benefit of the narrow-minded and greedy?

Actually, we don't have to. There are plenty of reasons for us not to.

I'll toss out another example:

Washington National Airport

Surely that president did something worthwhile, yet the name got changed anyway. Sometimes people don't know how to leave well enough alone.

I like what Reagan did.

But I don't think we should be spending tax money changing stamps and coins and etc. It's a waste of resources and usually done to placate some group. Give me that tax money back.

Although changing the 20 to make it harder to counterfeit. That does make more practical sense.

I agree with Nancy Reagan - don't put his photo on there right now.

With regards to your comment demeaning the man, you really should get a clue. Leftists attack the man with 'muppet' and senility comments because of his onset of Alzheimer's. Gee, that really took away from what he did, didn't it?

From fighting commies in the actor's guild to basically ending the cold war by standing up to the USSR vice appeasing them, Reagan did some amazing things throughout his political career.

Legacy quotes from our 1976-2000 Presidents:

Carter: The country is in a malaise - and I don't know what to do about it.

Reagan: Mr. Gorbachev - tear down this wall.

Bush: Read my lips - no new taxes.

Clinton: I did not have sexual relations with that Lewinsky woman!

GWB: I can hear you...America can hear you...and the folks who did this will be hearing from us pretty soon.

I'll give Reagan and GWB the edge in legacy quotes. To date.

So this is a democracy, yes?
Let's vote on it.

Lobby the congress to vote on if that phrase should be kept off the money.

I seriously doubt you would get very far in that.

I like:
BUSH: "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it."

BUSH: "[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system."

REAGAN: "I'm sorry, I don't recall" (at the Iran-Contra hearings).

At least Reagan could read the script.

You think he wasn't good at what he did? Or are you reacting in an emotional way because you disagree with what he did.

Another example of what? One president replacing another in being honored?

I think he will certainly be remembered for his quotes, but not in the way you imagine. He has provided more malapropisms for our enjoyment than any president I can remember.

"Teach a child to read and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test."

"Security is the essential roadblock to achieving the road map to peace."

"There's only one person who hugs the mothers and the widows, the wives and the kids upon the death of their loved one. Others hug but having committed the troops, I've got an additional responsibility to hug and that's me and I know what it's like."

"We need an energy bill that encourages consumption."

"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again."

"Do you have blacks, too?" (To Brazilian President Fernando Cardoso)

"Natural gas is hemispheric. I like to call it hemispheric in nature because it is a product that we can find in our neighborhoods."

"The legislature's job is to write law. It's the executive branch's job to interpret law."

"It's clearly a budget. It's got a lot of numbers in it."

"I think we need not only to eliminate the tollbooth to the middle class, I think we should knock down the tollbooth."

"Will the highways on the Internet become more few?"

"This is Preservation Month. I appreciate preservation. It's what you do when you run for president. You gotta preserve." (speaking on Perseverence Week)

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

"They want the federal government controlling Social Security like it's some kind of federal program."

"They misunderestimated me."

There are plenty of things he was really bad at during his presidency. Foriegn relations. The economy. Realistic defense planning. Take your pick.

I don't understand the need to replace the focus of someone being honored. What do you think about taking the Lincoln Memorial and having some people use chisels and concrete to convert it into the Clinton Memorial? Maybe we should issue a memo to change the Jefferson Memorial into the Carter Memorial while we are at it.

Do I suggest those? No. They are ridiculous, just like changing the people shown on existing currency or honored in an existing airport. It is the whim du jour and the epitome of conservative political correctness.
