BikerBabe 0 #1 December 8, 2003 Well, it's almost that time again....the Air Force will be moving me (and hubby) next summer. There are pros and cons to each place, and they are limited because of my job and the ability to be assigned the same place as my hubby, who is also in the AF. I'm leaning toward one of the first two because of proximity to 4-way team possibilites and the like, but I'm open to the others. Guest #2 December 8, 2003 Don't tell me you actually get to choose?! Don't you mean filling out your "dream sheet", or do you have a break via "Join Spouse" ? mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
CanuckInUSA 0 #3 December 8, 2003 Come to CO Andi, and you won't be too far away from NM if you still want to visit your friends there. Colorado Spring is a very pretty town (I lived there for two years back in the late 90s) and we do skydive all 12 months of the year (though maybe not all 52 weekends). You can jump down in Canon City with their Caravan or you could visit Mile-Hi (King Air now with an Otter coming in the Spring?) or Brush (with their King Air). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
jb092 0 #4 December 8, 2003 I was stationed at Ramstein and had a blast there. As far as skydiving goes it is exspensive over there but allot of fun. There are cheap places to jump but you will have a bit of a distance to go. What could possibly go wrong?
skyyhi 0 #5 December 8, 2003 I of course vote for Edwards because it is here in Cali. . .and I am partial to Cali. Racenic 0 #7 December 8, 2003 http://www.skydivecaliforniacity.com/ Cal City is about a 20 minute drive out the north gate of Edwards AFB. They jump 7 days a week including haul loads for the Air Force and the Navy (from China Lake) Perris and Elsinore is about 1-2 hours drive south. Not to mention there is a motocross track on base and your husband can hit Willow Springs for the Road Races just down the main road from the main entrance to the base. NoShitThereIWas 0 #9 December 8, 2003 Of all those choices I would choose Germany (if there is jumping there). If not, I would go for Cali, at least the weather is nice ... But if you could choose anywhere, I would choose Oahu. There is lots of military there and IMHO, it is the most beautiful place to live and jump.Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." freeflir29 0 #10 December 8, 2003 Quote Don't you mean filling out your "dream sheet", or do you have a break via "Join Spouse" ? Works a bit differen't for "O's." They can actually look for job openings and apply for them. I can't really vote in this poll. I HATE cold weather...so the only thing I would vote for there is Florida. I know...Edwards is warm...but it's out in the middle of nowhere.
BikerBabe 0 #11 December 8, 2003 Actually, they are changing the assignment system AGAIN...now it's sort of a dream sheet, sort of an "apply for". Joint Spouse also means we talk a lot to the poeple in charge of our assignments, and face time is always good when trying to get where you want to go. I'm just wondering what to list first. Usually you get one of your top three choices, and there are more than three jobs in both CO and CA. I could also go to Los Angeles Air Force Base, but we do NOT want to live in the area of LA where it is located. Baaaaaaad. Can't go to Oahu...I'm an acquisition weenie and there are no jobs there for an engineer/program manager.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! riggerrob 643 #13 December 8, 2003 Having lived in California City (near Edwards AFB), Fort Erie, Ontario (near Ohio) and CFB Baden-Solingen (near Ramstein), I would chose Ramstein. Skydiving may not be cheap in Europe, but it sure is a lot of fun! Every weekend you get to jump with German, Swiss, French, North Amreican, etc. skydivers. Oh, and when it rains, you can do weekend trips to neat places like Luxembourg and Lichtenstein.
Gawain 0 #14 December 8, 2003 EAFB, the high desert is beautiful, and it looks like the base is doing some nice maintenance/upkeep work based on my last visit there. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
