KawiZX900 0 #27 November 4, 2003 you talking about top roping outdoors, bouldering or lead. Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. jtval 0 #28 November 4, 2003 bouldering seem interesting but i dont think youd need a second/buddy for that (to my knowledge bouldering is climing around a low height stuff, with varying levels of grips)My photos My Videos
prepheckt 0 #29 November 4, 2003 Yeah JT, you usually don't need one for bouldering, but you still can take a pretty nasty fall bouldering, basically they're there to make sure your feet hit first instead of your head. Taz 0 #30 November 4, 2003 Sounds awesome... I've climbed in a gym a few times and outside once, but it's been ages--I might be among the clueless in the group, but I'll bring my shoes and you can count me in for the day! -TIt's the Year of the Dragon. Amazon 7 #31 November 4, 2003 Quotebouldering seem interesting but i dont think youd need a second/buddy for that Its ALWAYS better to go in a group.. even in bouldering you can slip and sprain or break things... and if you are a decent hike from transportation or help... you can find yourself in BIG trouble.. A buddy can always help.
jtval 0 #32 November 4, 2003 yea, I hear that! I've fallen once while free climbing... these were chances I took b/c I was low to the ground... I already planne my landing or FLF (freeclimbing landing fall LOL) I climbed this rock. I spotted it and siad I wanted to do it , my freind was a non believer and climbed the back side. when he was getting down I climbed the front edge. then I climbed down and had him tkae this pic.....while I was a w8ing for his dumb ass to click the thing I lost grip and slipped... LOL then I climbed back on so he could take this pic. its kinda weak but its a little steeper then it looksMy photos My Videos
prepheckt 0 #33 November 4, 2003 looks like a 5.7 or so? Looks like some good bouldering problems are on that rock."Dancing Argentine Tango is like doing calculus with your feet." -9 toes
jtval 0 #34 November 4, 2003 really? a 5.7? there were alot harder grips then the ones I was using. I took an easy path.My photos My Videos

jtval 0 #36 November 4, 2003 i know the 5.7 is a low experience climb but i didnt think I was even using that level of climb grips! LOLMy photos My Videos

billvon 3,058 #38 November 4, 2003 Sure, I'll bring my stuff. I have enough spare gear to outfit 3-4 other people if you need it (harnesses, 11mil static line etc)

KawiZX900 0 #40 November 4, 2003 you can go upwards of 20' bouldering... people get mad into it. Spotting, crash pads and what not stacked a couple deep so you can take a pretty good hit Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. skycat 0 #41 November 4, 2003 Quotethat would be great. Im no pro but Ill keep up with who I can and I'll cutaway when the group gets too experienced for me OK here is the deal, this is suppose to be fun, and a break from jumping hard. I will be planning routes that beginners can do, which means nothing above a 5.8, and depending on the group that might be pushing it. Climbing outside can be intimidating for those who have never done, and I want to provide as stress free as possible envirnment which includes less technical climbs and top roping. Israel, now quit scaring people with the 5.9-5.13 stuff.Fly it like you stole it!

skymama 37 #44 November 4, 2003 Quotewhat about shoes? are normal running shoes ok for now? Can you experienced climbers fill us newbies in on the proper attire to wear, head to toe? I want to be as prepared as possible, and since I'm going to be shipping stuff out to Betsy, I can just throw these things in too.She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
pattersd 0 #45 November 4, 2003 This sounds like fun. I'll bring my harness and shoes. It'll be fun to hang out on the rocks. Thanks for coming up with a great idea.
prepheckt 0 #46 November 4, 2003 Quote Can you experienced climbers fill us newbies in on the proper attire to wear, head to toe? Done. My skydiving clothes and climbing clothes are interchangeable. Because it's somewhat cool in December in Eloy, I usually wear a long sleeve t-shirt with a another T-shirt just to have an extra layer on. Bring a sweater just in case it snows or something. If you have any nylon/rubber pants, those work great. The pants I FF in work well for me. You can wear shorts if you want, but it will be cold, and your legs will get cut up on the rock (mine do when I don't wear pants). Tennis shoes really don't work well for rock climbing, because they don't have the special rubber that gives a lot traction. You could probably get away with using them for bouldering though."Dancing Argentine Tango is like doing calculus with your feet." -9 toes
skymama 37 #47 November 4, 2003 QuoteIf you have any nylon/rubber pants, those work great. I have Birdman Pantz, do you think those would work? prepheckt 0 #48 November 4, 2003 BM Pantz? I don't think you want to risk tearing those up. I don't recommend gloves, you won't get as good grip on the rock, and they might catch or tear. You can find a good cheap pair at Walmat or even an outdoor store. 10-15 dollars"Dancing Argentine Tango is like doing calculus with your feet." -9 toes
CanuckInUSA 0 #49 November 4, 2003 Quotewhat about shoes? are normal running shoes ok for now? Unfortunately in most cases, normal running shoes will NOT be okay. Climbing shoes are really gummy on the soles of the shoes (if I can describe them that way) in order to adhire to the rock. Believe it or not, climbers are supposed to use their legs more than their arms while on a pitch (especially when friction climbing). Oh here's a good question for Kelli. Do you know if the routes will be feature climbing, friction or crack climbing? If we are crack climbing we will want to bring enough tape to create some tape gloves for everyone (assuming I even remember how to make them). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
