downsizing

What do you think of downsizing from a 185 to 160?

I have 368 jumps in 2.5 years with my last 200 jumps on turbo-z 185. I'm about 210 lbs.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Look at Billvon's list and nail a 10 foot target 10 times in a row on each jump that you attempt Billvon's suggestions and complete it successfully. Then you should be ready.

For example, go up, try objective one then land your parachute in a 10 foot target. Do it 10 times and if you fail, start over.

If you can do that, you'll have over 400 jumps and might be ready. :o

That's actually a good reason to keep the 185. Why go from gear you are comfortable with to gear you are uncomfortable with? Get a rig sized for a 170, put the 185 in there (it will fit) and you'll be able to downsize later if you want.

I definately agree with BillVon. If you have any desires to learn how to swoop, even if you just want to be a DZ swooper, then you should stick with your canopy. You can take the opportunity to learn how to swoop on this canopy that you're comfortable with, then when you downsize or change to a higher performance canopy at the same wing loading, then you will be ahead of the curve. Whats impressive to me is a really bitch'n swoop on a moderately loaded open nose 7 or 9-cell canopy. Whats not impressive is someone who is behind the curve on their canopy that is too small for them. Even worst are people who are on the edge on their canopy control. Those are the people you read about in the incidents forum where everyone says they "were" a great person...
