RevJim 0 #1 December 3, 2003 OK, I do love this altimeter, that much I admit. I put away my Galaxy for now, and am using the Neptune as my primary visual altimeter. I must admit though, I spent the extra cash on a freefall computer, to be able to use it as that, a freefall computer. I assumed the client software would be ready by now, as the altimeter holds this in memory: ***Last 10 Jumps* * Jump # * Date * Time * Exit Altitude * Deployment Altitude * Freefall time * Speed (vertical) at 12, 9, 6, & 3000' * Max Speed * Alarm group used * Full profile (downloadable to PC) * The actual number of jumps is dependent on freefall time. i.e. a lesser number of wing suit jumps will be available with a full profile. I'm hoping it is going to be very soon that the client software is released. Much longer, and the Protrack with Jumptrack look better and better. Anyone else with a Neptune getting impatient? Leroy? Anyone else? Who else even has one? It's your life, live it! Karma RB#684 "Corcho", ASK#60, Muff#3520, NCB#398, NHDZ#4, C-33989, DG#
AggieDave 6 #2 December 3, 2003 IMHO, it seems like Alti-2 is using the general public (at the the public's expense) to beta test their product. They should have held it until it was unfucked and all the features were ready.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AndyMan 7 #3 December 3, 2003 Quite frankly, I'm surprised people didn't expect this when they bought it. As a rule, I don't buy any new high tech device until its been on the market for a year at least, skydiving instrument, audio-video device, or computer software. I assume people who're running to be the first on the block to get something are willing to put up with the quirks or bugs, but the complaints always seem to prove me wrong... _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. kevin922 0 #4 December 3, 2003 well i gave up on bugging alti-2.. but the client software is once again another broken promise and delay.. i know it is a 3rd party developing it, but they should be held accountable for deadlines. I believe the first "release date" i heard was in october, end of.. it's now december and nothing new that i've heard.' Hold on i'll call them on your behalf :) ring.... ring.... ring.... "alti-2 can I help you" (cathy) "yes, curious when the software for the neptune would be out?" (kevin) "one moment please" (cathy) (on hold now... still on hold) "i'm sorry no one picked up, i can tell you we're not writing it another company is that's all i know" (cathy) "i had called months ago and was told it would be the end of october, you don't have any updates?" (kevin) "the person you would need to talk to is not answering right now" (cathy) "is that roger?" (kevin) "yes" (cathy) so there is your answer.. RevJim 0 #6 December 3, 2003 Actually, it is quite "unfucked". It's a very nice piece of equipment. I just want a way to download the hard data to my laptop before I lose it. The aircraft and canopy modes are pretty cool too. It's your life, live it! They should have held it until it was unfucked and all the features were ready. IMHO, the public deserves exactly what it has now. It was the public that was yelling and screaming for the immediate release of the Neptune once word of its existance was leaked. Beta testers? Maybe, but it was the public who demanded the release of a not-ready-for-primetime product. Kwitcherbitchen. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. AggieDave 6 #9 December 3, 2003 Ah, but see, I don't own one. I think they're cool, I think they'll be very nice once everything is fixed and done with them, but right now, not me, not going to get a buggy piece of equipment.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." nathaniel 0 #10 December 4, 2003 I asked them for the IR interface specs to the device so that I might write something and release it to the public domain, but Alit-2 declined to the effect that the 3rd party has some sort of exclusive arrangement with them. So much for competition! nathanielMy advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski? RevJim 0 #11 December 4, 2003 I would be happy to just be able, for now, to dump the data to a file on the laptop, to be decoded later by the software. At least I wouldn't lose extended data that way (if it's really in there without V2 of the firmware........)It's your life, live it! I think they're cool, I think they'll be very nice once everything is fixed and done with them, but right now, not me, not going to get a buggy piece of equipment. Dave, I just bought one knowing the status of it's development and client software. I bought it because I don't currently own an audible of any sort and after looking at it's (when completed) feature list, thought that it would be the best of breed. (Not intending to start a brand war here ). I really liked the (at this point vapourware) client software and the PalmPilot companion software. Now if only we could get functional versions. How many people that bought Neptune own a competitive product? How many use both?Lou ___________________________________ . . . now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb - Dark Helmet
RevJim 0 #15 December 4, 2003 QuoteOther then the things mentioned in this thread, how do you all like the Neptune? Other than the fact that I can't get my detailed jump data to a laptop before it is gone forever? I love it! Like I said, I'm using it as my primary visual altimeter, and it's a wonderful tool for that.
