Harksaw 0 #51 December 2, 2003 QuoteQuote I have a t-shirt and a bumper sticker that I got at ASC.. they both say Adventure Skydiving Center. oh my god.. did they sell me a false t-shirt??!!!! eh.. who cares, my ex bought it for me. hehee. no sweetie.... they changed the name i think......it is adventure skydiving center now.... Their website (http://www.skydivecenter.com/) says on top of it, "Atlanta Skydiving Center" Mapquest says that the trip from Atlanta to Cedartown is 1 hour 30 minutes (reasonable). Mapquest also says that Charleston, SC to Cedartown, GA is 6 hours 55 minutes. (Unreasonable)__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. LoudDan 0 #52 December 2, 2003 Whaddya mean.....it's only 20 minutes away. I do trade off and go to Thomaston now. To be honest the only people that kept me at ASC originally was Nate, TJ, and Steve-O. Steve-O and TJ have moved on, but I still go out to get coaching from Nate and to freefly with Tyler, Kenny, Katie, Sun-man, Michael B, Hans, and when we can ge him to jump, JRock. All kickass people, and if you go to ASC who you should hook up with. Just know that you can't jump out of the "same airplane used in the movie Point Break". Thomaston has got a great vibe, and a fast as hell KA (about 8 - 9 minutes to 14,5 as apposed to Mike Mullins 7 - 8). Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! diverdriver 5 #54 December 2, 2003 Quoteis skydive chicago in chicago?..... is skydive san diego in san diego? is skydive atlanta in atlanta? At least Skydive Chicago is a real DZ with a REAL WORLD RECORD that happened there. And our old t-shirts DID have OTTAWA, IL on them. These false DZs that all point back to ASC is bullshit. That's all I have to say about that.Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125
JRock 0 #55 December 2, 2003 Wow... I am feelin' the love for our home DZ. How bad is our rep? We seem to be the only DZ getting raked across the coals here in the threads.
kevin922 0 #56 December 2, 2003 Blue skies adventures is near charleston I believe, and if i remember correctly the same person who owns ASC owns BSA.. can anyone confirm?
PhreeZone 20 #57 December 2, 2003 I thought BSA was under totally new management recently.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
wildblue 7 #58 December 2, 2003 QuoteI thought BSA was under totally new management recently. BSA went out of business awhile ago IIRC - then back in? The only things I can find similar between the two sites is to call Comfort Inn to stay, and ask for the skydiver discount. So, I guess it is possible they're part of the "Skyride Network" I don't think the owners are the same though - Jack Walter owns BSA. QuoteWow... I am feelin' the love for our home DZ. How bad is our rep? We seem to be the only DZ getting raked across the coals here in the threads. Ummm.. yeah.. the rep seems to be pretty bad. Read some of the reviews here on DZ.com to get a good idea. It's not that great of a DZ (facilities are ok, landing area sucks, people don't seem that friendly at all) and the questionable business practices of the owner pretty much seals the opinions of most people. I find it funny someone keeps saying "Thanks for the publicity" ... I really don't think this is one of those cases where even bad publicity is good. I could be wrong. Skydive Chicago used to get raked over the coals all the time - but for completely different reasons. And those reasons could even be argued, you could convince people on either side. And it wasn't just the loyalists trying to convince you it was a good place.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
JRock 0 #59 December 2, 2003 Why would SDC have any reason to get raked over the coals? That place is AWESOME! The people there are great and the facility is top notch.
kevin922 0 #60 December 2, 2003 QuoteI thought BSA was under totally new management recently. Yeah i think this is what i'm talking about, the "new management" inludes someone who is assoicated with ASC.. something about a guy who drives a lamborgini or some other expensive sports car? wildblue 7 #61 December 2, 2003 Heh... I can't believe I'm going to pull an Ivan here - search through dz.com and wreck-dot... SDC has more than its share of detractors. Put a well known, controversial, aggressive, loved/hated, ex-con DZO in with a super high volume DZ with more than average number of fatalities... it's bound to get ugly.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
LoudDan 0 #62 December 2, 2003 Associated with ASC is one way of putting it, owns..would be another, and operates 1-800-Skyride would be yet another. Name rhymes with Berry. ASC really is a good drop zone from an up-jumper aspect, and the skydiving staff is awesome, lots of experience. I think a lot of people get pissed about the advertising, and that is totally understandable. As far as questionable business practices, I don't feel I've ever been cheated. I've heard plenty of stories("THE FARM" being the result of one of these stories), and seen some things, hell I've even been told that the owners are suing a former packer (what the idea behind that is I'll never know). But I can say I've never had a bad time, I usually have to good of a time. Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

Taylor610 0 #70 December 3, 2003 Mr. Jack Walter is the new owner of Blue Sky Adventures, in St. George, SC. He is not associated with ASC in any way that I am aware of. BSA is a very fun and safe skydiving center that has a wonderful staff. The vibe there is always upbeat and the people are a blast.
