Best Christmas Movie

Recommended Posts

It's hard to narrow it down to just five, but we do what we have to...

So, what do you guys think? While they're all good movies, I'd have a hard time falling asleep at night if I didn't vote Its A Wonderful Life.

My favorites in order:

1, Christmas Vacation
2. Miracle on 34th Street (original version)
3. The Santa Clause (Tim Allen) have not seen the second one yet.
4. Bad Santa
5. It's a Wonderful Life

A Christmas Story reminds me of the feeling I had when I was a kid. All the anticipation building up to the day. My childhood was quite different than that of "Ralphie", but a lot of the feelings are pretty universal.

It's a Wonderful Life reminds me that no matter how dissappointing certain turns of life are, each one can bring some good that can only be seen years later.

Neither film is particularly about "Christmas" in fact, most Christmas films aren't about Christmas. They only happen to take place during that time of year.

White Christmas for all it's Irving Berlin title track has nothing to do with Christmas! It's really a story of two guys putting on a banquet for a retired Army General. Never could figure that one out as to why it's so dang popular.

I actually think Holiday Inn is a much nicer seasonal story although, like the others, it too has little to do with the actual holiday of Christmas.

There are several versions of A Christmas Carol the story of Scrooge. Very much like It's a Wonderful Life in that it's a personal exploration of one person's life and again -- not really about Christmas!

Can anyone think of a good Christmas movie that actually -IS- about Christmas?

No anthropomorphized versions of any classics -- please.

Almost as bad as the VeggieTales versions and holy crap just the idea of talking Christian vegetables makes be want get out the Ginsu knife and start slicing.

What the hell were these people thinking?!?

My husband IS Clark W. Griswold, Jr. ALL of the family and friends and our whole dang neighborhood call him that every year.... "The little lights are not twinkling, Clark.":P

Sorry it's cruel I know, but holidays always go straight to hell every year because of the in-laws and their various ex's griping and trying to press charges (good Lord Jaye are you kidding? Why no, no I'm not...), and as I'm killing the spiked eggnog out back hiding my *occassional* cigarette habit, he's inside yelling "...and we're ALL going to have a VERY merry Christmas, like it or not. Holy shit, pass the rum..." :S I swear, just like the movie!! I don't know how he keeps it together without going completely postal... I love him so much for his strength in the presence of the 'extended' family...'course, I'm hiding the shot-gun too though...:S:S

"Christmas Story" is it, hands down, because it's seen through a kid's eyes.

Thought -I- was the only one who hated these horrible cartoonish fables! Caught a glimpse of them once and that's all it took!

I absolutely LOVE Christmas Vacation. My favorite by far. Santa Clause comes in a close second and Jingle All the Way is a family favorite. A Christmas Story can be run over with a bulldozer! I would be extremely happy if I never saw that movie on TV again! It's stupid in the first place but why must they play it everyday between Thanksgiving and Christmas? Why the insanity?! WHY?!
I'm so funny I crack my head open!

CHICAGO — “Jonah,” Veggie Tales’ first venture into the big screen arena, made a splash Oct. 6 by taking the No. 6 slot during its first weekend of limited release. By the second weekend, Jonah dropped to No. 11, but it was expected to remain steady after it's nationwide release.

According to figures provided by Big Idea, the G-rated film earned $3.6 million on its second weekend, plus another $500,000 on the Columbus Day holiday, bringing the two-weekend total to $11.5 as of Oct. 15. On its opening weekend, Box Office Guru reported the film, distributed through Artisan’s Family Home Entertainment Pictures, opened in 940 theaters primarily in the South and Midwest—where the video series has a strong following—drawing $6.2 million for the weekend.

And that is just ONE movie. Wish my bank was that small...

Agreed with all about a Christmas Story. It's just to funny. The Lamp. Dad the Tire Changer (and poor Ralphie). The bumpkiss's dogs and... best of all ... the Chinese Food scene.

A Christmas Story since it is (literally) how my family grew up. My grandfather knew the real life Flick (Flick even had a bar in Hammond...Flick's Tavern.) He even had the teacher that was portrayed in the movie! All of my grandparents grew up in Hammond, IN (where the movie is) during that time, so it's neat to hear them talk about it as well.

For anyone who ever makes fun of Indiana, this is one more good thing that's come from there! I just really like it since it's like a little piece of home to me that the rest of the world actually watches.

I reall want a leg lamp. Who will buy me one for Christmas?

I don't know. I used to volunteer at a domestic violence shelter when I lived in Michigan, and the kids absolutely LOVED to watch VeggieTales. It took me a ffew minutes to catch on to what was going on between the lines, and well, the whole thing seemed so sneaky, so insidious to me.
