Can your employer force you to get a flu shot?

said that if we don't get the flu shot that he will pay for that he won't pay if we get sick with the flu later

Unless you're some sort of care provider/health care professional, I don't think you are required to get a flu shot. Unpaid sick leave (if you have paid sick leave available), I believe is illegal. Call your lawyer and ask him/her.

Then call a guy with a big stick and ask him to talk to your lawyer boss.

Actually, if you're boss is a lawyer, then talk to another lawyer, preferably a better lawyer. Or you could just ask Lawrocket.>:(:P

He can't force you to get a flu shot. But, I think h's in trouble if he does't pay you for getting the flu.

Think about how many people are allergic to flu shots? Furthermore, the flu vaccine could be the wrong one (the CDC guesses what flu will be to big one every year).

Just tell him you are allergic to flu shots (tell him your old doctor many years ago said you reacted poorly to the egg protein) and then you should be okay.

He's a dork. The flu shot only makes folks less sypmtomatic.

If you get the flu and call in sick, when the boss asks you how come?, say this:

"Premenstrual cramps"

He will hang up in terror.

He's such a genius, force HIM to come up with a shot that prevents that!

Whenever I'm sick, my boss (my dad) tells me to do only the work that is necessary and then leave as soon as possible. His theroy is he's much more important to the company, so it's better for me to leave then for my germs to get him sick! :P

ROFL Andrea! I like your idea Quade...I got the damn shot because I can't afford to not get paid, and I kinda hope I get sick now because it'd be the first time I got sick in years! (I've never gotten the shot before.) Then I can rub it in his face how I was right (for all the good it'd do)!

What pissed me off the worst was his way of strong-arming me into doing it. I also appreciate the validation of my previous feelings for him...he IS a dickhole! :D

Oh, and a funnier thing? That's my Xmas bonus as well cuz he's too broke he says to do anything for us (tho I haven't had a raise in almost two years and he doesn't provide any insurance at all either).

On the upside, I had a phone call from a rather interesting job prospect I applied for that includes massages AND insurance as benefits. Yee haw! Hope I hear back :)

And usually when you get the flu, you can expect to lose at least 5 pounds. The pay-off is great as long as you live through it! :P

Hi Pammi, to my knowledge, they can ask nicely, but I do not think he can put that kind of a demand, and consequence on that. I always did when I was working as a dental tech because I had to work around peoples' slobber and blood all the time. My boss said pretty please it is free thru our health care provider. However, laws change all the time.-I'd say if you work around peoples' body fluids, I'd do it for your own good.-Caress
I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being
right.

My boss, while he says it's our decision, said that if we don't get the flu shot that he will pay for that he won't pay if we get sick with the flu later. Can you do that??

Pammi

I think your boss is wrong. [:/] Getting a flu shot, doesn't guarantee you won't get the flu. The company I work for, offered free flu shots to all employees (3000), on a voluntary basis. Over 85% chose to get the flu shots.

I think "On a voluntary basis", is the best way to go for a company. Being forced to do something, never yields positive results IMHO.

By the way: I've got the flu shot myself. :)
;)

Yves.
