Class Act

Recommended Posts

Found some of the articles, clearly without your help.

The following comes from

http://afr.com/articles/2003/08/01/1059480545424.html

'Representative Porter Goss, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the discovery pointed to how far Iraqi forces went to conceal their activities. The Florida Republican was briefed on the discovery during his recent trip to Iraq.

"Our guys have found 30-something brand new aircraft buried in the sand to deny us access to them," Goss said. "These are craft we didn't know about."

He said the planes were not considered weapons of mass destruction for which coalition troops have been searching for months, "but they are weapons (Iraq) tried to hide." '

One, as the senator says, these are not banned WMD's. Two, 30 year old aircraft are hardly "brand new." Three, many of the articles said that little or nothing was done to protect the aircraft before burial. Four, then you know that you would also have carried atropine and all the rest of the chemical gear during an exercise. Not much point in having the gas mask if you don't have the rest of the stuff. Five, I have no clue what your final quote is supposed to mean.

Quote

"The ONLY thing keeping you from getting what you really want is the STORY you tell yourself as to why you can't have it!"

Seems to me the only one telling stories is GWB.

Umm.. I viewed an interview with an Iraqi/American on TV a few evenings ago. She WAS a victum of WMD's from when Sadham was in power.. I still support GWB and Agree with his actions. You are failing to see the big picture as usual.

Perhaps it is you who have failed to grasp the big picture. Even after Saddam gassed the Kurds, the US gov't still supported him.

So - the Bush Administration criticized and vilified the UN inspectors for not finding the WMDs, and used that as part of the justification for invading in such a hurry they couldn't get enough international support to run the "peace", but the US has now had LONGER in Iraq, with MORE freedom of movement, than the inspectors had since they were re-admitted, and still the US has found nothing. All the administration does is spin and take photo-ops.

This administration's foreign policy is a shambles and a disgrace to a great nation.

Clinton's government?

The gas attack on the Kurds was in 1988. The Iran - Iraq war was in 1980 - 1988 when gas was used by Iraq and the US actively supported Iraq.

When was the last time anyone on this forum, American or other, did anything to make a person or persons in their military feel good/happy if only for a day. Do we have to make a battle out every move a politician makes.

It appears so.

Have you read this last week's Time Magazine? It suggests that this Administration has polarized the American populace more than any ever has, or so they say. I mean, Lincoln had some splits there too. ;)

Anyway, some articles worth a read.

Quite often - my son is a sergeant in the US Army.

Unfortunately it is the military that bears the brunt of the politicians' screw-ups.

Sigh...why do I let myself get suckered into these kinds of threads?

Do you guys ever question anything??? I just can't understand how people who've at least heard about and hopefully read the numerous scandals/lies from politicians believe everything that one man says. Has anyone who's for the war in Iraq ever stepped back and thought, "Hmm...maybe we shouldn't have gone there?" (Sure, the same can be said about liberals...blah blah blah.)

Seriously, I am completely confused. They went there to find wmd. Are people really that easily brainwashed? Do people just not see that when we couldn't find them, that's when everything went to "Operation Iraqi Freedom"? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems blatantly obvious that lies were told when the entire purpose of a war changed.

As far as it what he did being a class act, call me a cynic, but I believe it was an act of swaying voters.

I think I would've been a great hippie....

GW's visit, probably mostly political. I never saw anything on the news on how the troops felt - out of their mouths, so I can't say whether they really wanted him there or not and if it was a good thing. From the outside it appears to be a good thing but I'm not in Iraq living in those conditions, surrounded by people wanting to kill you.

That would have nothing to do with the Military or GWB, it would have everything to do with the most evil force in this country, the media.

What difference does it make? Just because you sell someone something doesn't mean they are going to use it :|

Be real Rob. If you sell someone something I think that you can reasonably expect that they will use it, don't you?

John,
I am sure you are proud of your son as you should be. He is doing a tough job for a country whose citizens have never had to want for a thing. They get pissed at some politician and comdem the system. When you see your son, give him a hug for me and let him know there are some of us that love him for what he does for us.

Paul,
Since I retired I quit reading Time, Newsweek and the paper most of the time. I have learned that I am not going to change the way things are and at my age I don't need the grief, I want to play.
