ifics 0 #1 November 17, 2003 Just curious, I jumped for the first time a bit ago without one and I loved the way the wind felt against the ol' pumpkin. Besides RW and camera work is there really a reason? (other then nailing the plane)

kansasskydiver 0 #5 November 17, 2003 yes actually there is a very good reason. i have 2 friends that lived after a skydiving accident because they WERE wearing their helmets... you never know when you're going to turn low, collide in freefall with another jumper, collide on approach, there are so many reasons that you SHOULD jump with a helmet<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! sunshine 2 #8 November 17, 2003 I prefer to jump without one. It depends on the jump and who i'm jumping with if i'll wear one or not. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!

Its one of those what-if situations that makes you wear it every time. i used to be the same way when i owned my bike, the one time i did wear my helmet, i totalled my bike, landed face first on the pavement. it saved my face and posible injury. i say, just wear your helmet, it's for the best. if you don't, be sure you're aware of all your surroundings, you can always get an open face to experience the "wind in your face" effect, but protect your nugget, that's my .02 cents<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! Casie 0 #11 November 17, 2003 I always wear my helmet. Ever notice little scratches on your helmet? It's probably cause you keep hitting it on the door, inside the plane, against your friend, etc.~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts! Dumpster 0 #13 November 17, 2003 Most all of my jumps are RW and I wear a full-face as a rule. I've been kicked in the face a couple times and it would have been a bloody mess. Once in a while, like doing night jumps or hop-n-pops I'll wear an open face Pro-Tec, and maybe once or twice a year I'll go without completely- (Like when chasing the very occasional tandem-). I contradict myself in that I don't wear a helmet on my motorcycle, and I always wear a seatbelt in the car. All a matter of personal preference and freedom of choice. dove 0 #14 November 17, 2003 Always... for several reasons. Mostly what-ifs: what if you end up unconscious under canopy (ie cypress fire after freefall collision), what if the plane has to do an emergency landing before anyone gets a chance to exit, what if your landing doesn't go quite as planned and you're not quite the PLF expert you thought you'd be? And for those of use with curly locks, it's pretty much a must unless you're going for the dredlock look. Fall in dove.
indyz 1 #15 November 17, 2003 I wear a helmet most of the time. Solos and the occasional small RW jump are exceptions. I also do CRW without a helmet, but that is because I only own a Mindwarp and I can't hear anything when I'm wearing it. I promise to get a half-shell for next season. turtlespeed 226 #16 November 17, 2003 If I am jumping with more than just me, then I will. If I'm doing a hop&pop (Of which I do alot of) I don't usually. If I'm going to do Freefall for more than say 20 seconds or so, then yes, I'll wear it. Obviously, as well, when I'm doing my amature video attempts.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
towerrat 0 #17 November 17, 2003 I voted "most of the time". I won't wear it on the occasional solo or hop and pop. As a rule I wear it to hold my dytter and so in case of a hard strike to the head. I tend to not rely on my cypres as I don't have one, and am quite sure it won't workPlay stupid games, win stupid prizes!

2fat2fly 0 #19 November 17, 2003 Always...I'm mostly concerned with landing. I've never landed on a hard surface or near obstacles but I'm not cocky enough to think that I'll never brain fart myself into that situation and I'd feel really stupid recovering from an injury that a cheap Protek could prevent.I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried
McDuck 0 #20 November 17, 2003 I always wear mine, but that's because I love showing off my sticker. It says "BE NOT HALF-ASSED". Since I tend to bump my head on every conceivable surface in a ten foot radius of my noggin, I put it on and leave it on until I'm down safely. happythoughts 0 #22 November 17, 2003 I wear some type of helmet every time because I have seen a number of helmets that had large cracks in them. I figure it is a good idea to take some precautions for one of those times.
bch7773 0 #23 November 18, 2003 most of the time. I sometimes don't if I'm just doing a hop n pop, or a tracking dive. Since I have a full face, its sometimes nice to feel the wind in my face on "not-as-dangerous" jumps. MB 3528, RB 1182
