McDuck 0 #1 November 25, 2003 Just out of curiousity, how many other dropzones are doing this? Our DZ decided, being that we're in military-mania-land, that they would hold a huge Thanksgiving Day dine and jump for everyone who either has family they can't be with, has no family in this area or simply can't stand the people they are expected to spend Thanksgiving with (I added that last part myself, in a lame attempt to be funny). All they ask is that you show up. They've mentioned that you might want to bring a side dish to help feed the many faces that will be there, but they don't EXPECT anyone to. I think it's a grand idea, and if I can politely break away from my father's plans long enough to say hello, then Cora and I will be dropping by to spend a moment or two with all of our friends at our second home. Anyone in the vicinity of Parkton NC who would like to come, you are more than welcome. PM me if you need directions to our DZ, The Skydiving Place.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school. base698 20 #3 November 25, 2003 Most other drop zones in my experience do Thanksgiving related festivities. CSS has a big Thanksgiving boogie usually. Most dropzones at least jump and do some type of dinner thing.
Casie 0 #4 November 25, 2003 My home DZ....SkydiveSanMarcos will be doing just the same We won't be jumpin that day but will make up for it on Friday! seversdoc 0 #5 November 25, 2003 Our DZ owners very generously donated all of the food for a wonderful "Orphan" turkey dinner this past weekend. This was for all those with no family locally, etc... but, also allowed the rest of us to join and partake!!! MMMMMMMM!!! There were to be $13 jumps all weekend, too. Alas, Mother Nature only permitted an occassional hop-n-pop. But, the V.I.P. lounge was definitely a spot where love was spread... There will be jumps this weekend -- if Mother is in a better mood. Looking at the snow flurries outside and the high of 48 predicted today...I won't be holding my breath. Life- it's just shit that happens to you between jumps
sunnydee123 0 #6 November 25, 2003 I know Sebastian is doing something as well.....putting on a "big feast" FOR FREE for anyone who is around the DZ, so no one has to be alone or spend the day with annoying relatives . AND we WILL be jumping Thursday and ALL WEEKEND! Don't eat too much! Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...
sunshine 2 #7 November 25, 2003 A few years ago at Skydive Greene County, a few of us were at the DZ. Jim West invited us all over to his daughters house for dinner. I thought that was the most amazing, generous thing ever. I'm one of those people that doesn't have anywhere to go for Thanksgiving so that was the closest thing to a family dinner i've had in a long time. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! Swoopyswoop 0 #9 November 26, 2003 I feel the love Mr duck, I can feel it. Its great that the dz can do something for everyone who has nowhere to go for the holidays. Its not unusual for several people to have no where to go or no family. Its unfortunate that while we are at home with the family stuffing our face there is someone sitting at home by themselves with nothing to do and no where to go. Quite saddening if you think about it bro "when I die, I want to go like my grandfather while im sleeping, not like the passengers riding in the car with me Swoopster A.S.S. #6 Future T.S.S holder
bendywendy 0 #10 November 26, 2003 Pretty much every dz does it. I've spent many a holiday dinner at Sebastian, Lake Wales, CrossKeys, etc.

I got a small ham from Honeybaked Ham Co. along with all the goodies (cause I am a horrible cook). I'm setting my table with two places, one being a nonsliding plate, and me and my dog (complete with bib for him) are gonna enjoy the day, pigging out. He's a good friend, shows more unconditional love than people, doesn't talk back and is satisfied with a pat on the head, lol. I'm still spending Thanksgiving with the blood family (no not my vampires, that'll be tomorrow night, anyone wanting to join our coven in some fun PM me), but I got invited by some buddies of mine to hit a DZ up in northern ohio this weekend for something similar to that.
