Our “Friend in Flight” has died

Recommended Posts

My best and dearest friend has died after a 3-year battle with breast cancer. Penny Argue past away peacefully in her own bed surrounded by friends and family.

Penny was quite simply the best person I have ever known. She was warm, caring, generous, and ever so fun and funny. Penny had an incredibly positive approach to life – she naturally focused on the important things in life and didn’t sweat the small stuff. She made you feel like you were to only person in the world that mattered. She was an inspiration to me and I tried to be a better person because of her example. Right to the very end, Penny was a model of strength and character. At the funeral, it was clear that many people felt the same way.

The funeral service was a celebration of life with bunches of balloons at the end of each pew. The service began with “September” by Earth Wind and Fire and ended with “Ray of Light” by Madonna. It was truly a moving experience.

Although Penny was not a skydiver she had the heart of one. Carmen Mullenix, my friend and AFF instructor, honored Penny by wearing her name on every jump during the Jump for the Cause at Perris in October of 2002. As a “Friend in Flight”, Penny flew in spirit with the wonderful women of skydiving as they set the world record for the largest all-female formation skydive and raised money for breast cancer research and patient care.

My life is forever changed.

Penny Argue, 1964 – 2003

Ohh Philip, I'm so very sorry. I was hoping she would be one of the lucky ones that would survive the horror of cancer. I'm just glad she had time to share with her loved ones. She's so lucky to have a friend like you.

Jump for the Cause was a significant highlight in my skydiving career. Carrying Penny's name with me made it real. It honestly put the event on a whole new level -- It made more than skydiving -- it made it personal and added meaning. Thank you so much for sharing Penny's life with me. Though I never met her, we share a special bond through our friendship with you.

To all those who contributed to, participated in, and supported JFTC - Thank you. You made a difference.
