gypsy moths

Recommended Posts

i watch a lot of ole black and white movies.today on tmc there was a special on the filming of the gypsy moths.let me tell ya those guys were tough.the cast was burt lancaster gene hackman and deborah carr.it showed those guys packing the old rounds on a long table and then sliding a sleeve over the canopy then they s folded it and put it in the container.then they hooked up the harness.i saw probably the first birdman suit that looked like the thing that wile e coyote used.it had wooden dowels in the wings that kept breaking so they used alimunium(sp?) rods.the guy said that you had to be careful landing that thing or you would impale yourself on the metal rods.it also showed burt with 3 different colored canopies behind him that they would lay out behind him and then use a car to get him up in the air then film him landing.kind of like parasailing.that way they had 3 different colored canopies to show when he landed in the shows.those landings were something else.every one was a plf.it showed one guy that broke his collar bone on landing and he kept the film crew filming so that he could get the lines picked up on film so that he wouldnt have to film it again.pretty tough those guys and gals.if you get a chance to see this check it out its worth it.***where are we going and why are we in this handbasket?

I own the Video and it is available online.. the Short in the special features is kind of a Making of Gypsy Moths.. entitled.. The Skydivers.
Yes you could tow a PC up as a parasail...it worked..

Sleeves were common on MANY of the rounds PC's Paps, Surplus 28' and 35' with various mods.

I can bring it with me if they have some viewing device there at Eloy so ALLL of us can look at the old rounds... not a single square in the whole movie:)

I probably shouldn't say this, but I borrowed Jeanne's copy of "The Gypsy Moths" recently so that I could watch it for the very first time.

It's sort of primordial; I mean, those skydivers were hopping from one foot to the other while waiting for the Earth to cool...:D

The parachuting scenes were filmed well, but the plot was a joke. Attn Ivan: there is a really good Tit-ee Bar scene in the movie that I had to watch a few extra times... >:(...pasties and all, slowed down through the miracle of DVD technology to 1/16th speed...:D:D:D
