My turn to quit smoking

Recommended Posts

I'm too f*cking stupid. If a girl challenges me to something, its 99% certain I'll take her up. If she's cute, the chances are even higher. So it was "why don't you quit now" "YEAH WELL, I JUST MIGHT" and now I am committed.

Been 24 hours since my last cig. Of course I wanted to up the ante so I make it "quit cold turkey with no aid such as nicotine chewing gum or whatever". Great f*cking idea, I was *really* in the zone yesterday.
My head is feeling a bit light. Slight headache too. I suspect the next two days will be full of fun.

But I am a Macho Man! Surely I can get through this without crying and cursing the world for its cruelty! Agh.

One cig. Just ONE cig. Oooh would be nice.
No.

I feel like Gollum/Sméagol. Soon I'll see little "hobbitses and orcses". But I must not get close to the precioussss...however tempting.

WTF did I start in the first place? HELP!

Remember, the only way that quitting will stick is if you really want to; not because someone challenged you. That may have been the boost you needed to get clean on nicotine but realize all the health benefits for yourself, etc. Not trying to sound like I am preaching or anything. If you want to quit than stick with it and accomplish a goal not many can! That should really make you feel good about yourself. Not to mention that fact that a hot girl being impressed by that will probably dig ya a little more than she did before. We like guys that can stick to things or stick it to us:P

Wish you the best of luck! Stick to it, you will do just fine. Bitch to all of us, we can take it, lean on your friends ;)

Well, I've wanted to quit for a while. I had a date set (1.1.2004), and then this nice lady asked me "why don't you do it now?". And I'm stupid, so there ya go :)
I definitely want to quit for health reasons. But aside from that is the smell/price of smoking.

Coming up on 25 hours now. I have cocolate cake and chicken to stuff myself with. Always have a backup plan, right? B|

Thanks for support. Am gonna need it ;)

Best of luck to you! A friend of mine did something similar this summer- we were just getting drunk after a nice jumping day, and someone I think mentioned how he hasn't had a cigarette in a couple of years. My friend looked at me and said "Keep this for me, I'm quitting" as he handed me his freshly opened pack.
Well, noone took him seriously that evening and during the next few days I'd tease him with the pack he gave me, but eventually we used those cigarettes for nobler purposes and the last time I spoke to him, he was still clean. Hope it goes good for you too.
Btw, watch your weight. Quitting smoking can cause your wingloading to go up.:P

vonSanta-

I have complete faith that you'll be able to quit.

I heard a rumor that people who try to quit smoking, but then start smoking again are too weak of a person to jump out of plane. You're not too weak to jump out of a plane, are you? ;)

Hey Santa, I know what you're going through! I quit last sunday - that's 8 days without now.:S
But don't forget: it can't get worse than it already is, right?!
What is keeping me motivated is that I safe the money that I would have spent for cigarettes (sweet sweet cigarettes) and when I have enough I'll get a cool helmet or something else. I used to spend up to 100 Euros/month (!!) for cigarettes - so I should be able to afford a new bonehead by the end of january. :)
One last word:
You're a smoker. A smoker will probably stay a smoker for a long time, even if he thinks that he has managed to quit. Don't make the same mistake I made last time after a few weeks without smoking. "Man, it's just one little cigarette, I can handle it." Doesn't work like that.

I believe in you!:)

my bro's girlfriend gave him something like this...

He put it into his wallet where the drivers license usually goes. Every time he opened up the wallet to reach for cash to buy smokes, he saw the card as a reminder of what he was trying to accomplish.

Welcome to the non smoking world!

Here's your official ID Card!

You can do this. Its not even in question.
The only question is how much do you want to quit.
If you really want it, you CAN do it. There is no doubt.

I smoked 2 - 3 pack of Marlboro reds a day from age 14 to age 36
and I decided that I had paid the idiot tax for long enough.
I went cold turkey as you did. I've been smoke free for 3 years now and I've
never been healthier of happier.

If you are VERY committed, it wont be as hard as you think. You make it harder on yourself by thinking about how hard it is and dwelling on it.

The only encouragement I can offer you is the simple fact that you can
suceed if you want to. Dont let the tobacco bastards keep making a fool
of you.

The best helpful tip I can offer is stay away from alcohol for a few weeks.

There is no luck, good or otherwise.

Everytime you are tempted think that the little nicotine creature is playing with you. But you are stronger than him and you can kill him. But with every smell of cigarettes he takes up the fight.
So just make it a boxing ring and fight.

And well my reason for quitting was, I have more money to jump. One week not smoking and I
give myself a present jump in the weekend.

Well done! I've attempted to give up a few times recently, but the stress of life right now seems to end up with me 'just having another one'. Sitting here now smoking in fact.. and you're totally right. It tastes disgusting, smells horrible, it's making my head hurt more (been on the PC all day doing work, which doesnt help) and it's eating a hole in my wallet. Hopefully some day soon I'll be able to get together the willpower to follow suit and give up too!

Here's to your success *cheers* B|

Good Luck, I started smoking when I was 15 years old. I quit twice for a total of 5 months. I just quit for the last time on Oct 30th. I have been smoke-free for 24 days now. Believe me its NOT easy. I fight it ever day, but it does get easier. Ill promise you that. Heres some of my quitting smoking threads for you to look at.

Rapidly approaching 5 months smoke free here. It is NOT easy, but it is sooooo worth it!

The money I didn't spend in the last 5 months on smokes paid for my Bird Man suit, Neptune Altimeter, Hawkeye TM camera helmet, and a road trip from central Wisconsin to Ohio and Skydive Chicago.

It's soooooo damn worth it!

Just want to thank everyone for their suggestions and advice. 36 hours now (lol). If I start now, I gotta do those 36 hours all over some day.

I feel odd today. Didn't get too much sleep yesterday. I wonder how long it takes for the body to get drained of all nicotine. I guess I'll find out B|.

Now I'm gonna start scrubbing this place down. I've noticed that there's this smell of cigarettes in my apartment and I suspect I'll have to be really meticulous and wash everything to get rid of it. It'll gimme something to do B|

Thanks again for your help so far. Good to have some support/hear from people who've made it :)
Oh yeah; gonna buy me a new freefly suit next month for the cigarette-money B|. Just need to stay off those cigs.

LOL, funny post.
Not sure how it will work for you, but when i gave up 6 years ago, the first week was hellish, especially when we were in the pub and EVERYONE was smoking. However, then something interesting happened - suddenly the smell of cigarette smoke made me nauseous and it was SO easy not to smoke. Persevere dude and you'll be fine, its just the first week you have to bite down hard to get through.

Er, we'll leave it there rather than mention i took it up again once i srarted jumping :S

Awesome! Keep going! B|
It takes 72 hours for your body to be totally nicotine-free. Then all you have to worry about is breaking the habbit of lighting up after meals/in the car/drinking with friends/waiting for your load, etc.
Good luck ;)
