ACMESkydiver 0 #1 November 20, 2003 It's snowing here in Seattle, I just don't believe it! I'm sick at home, but wish I could jump in this. Big huge fluffy flakes. -Who's jumped in the snow before? Is it fun? ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
grega 0 #2 November 20, 2003 I did. It's fun for the first two seconds. Then when you can't feel your fingers, nose, ears,... it's not so fun anymore The landings are great though, you can drag a toe over the snow. But beware depth perception changes quite a bit when everything is white.."George just lucky i guess!"

grega 0 #4 November 20, 2003 one more thing be careful when you drag a toe over snow. it can have a frozen crust on top. You can break it if you have enough speed, but at the end of the swoop, when you're slow enough, crust is stronger and it stops you in a moment. You probably can imagine how it looks like if something locks your feet to the ground in the middle of the swoop "George just lucky i guess!"

ACMESkydiver 0 #6 November 20, 2003 Well sir, if you take a peek at my profile, you'd see that I'm too young in the sport to think about swooping anyhow!! I'm not a sky Venus yet...just yer basic 'A'... No, I have my own variety of swooping...it's more like skiing on the wet grass out at the East Field dropzone when it has a lil' dew on it. And the ending to that performance varies; either I end the long skid on my feet and it's a "TA-DA!!" (as per the instructions of my coach), or I tumble, and it's an "I meant to do that!" ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. EricaH 0 #8 November 20, 2003 In Chicagoland winters, we're all very excited when it actually warms up enough to snow. Let's you know that it's above frigid - so we should be able to actually feel our extremities upon touchdown. There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear. Yep, I just love watching them spread manure on the south end of the dropzone...helps make sure you're on top of your accuracy Last week one of the students barely missed the end of the field and landed (softly) in the dirt of the farmer's field on that end. I didn't bring up the fact that I saw them fertilizing it the week prior...he didn't smell too bad so I assumed they hadn't fertilized since! ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Kat1221 0 #14 November 20, 2003 Rain hurts more than snow....hop n pops are good in either. Just wear gloves, find a few other crazy people like you to fill a load and dry out your canopy after. After its snowed eveything looks different - I love it! If the snow is fairly deep it makes landing a bit different, but as long as you have warm gloves and wear layers its a lot of fun. Man overhere we're glad when it's cold enough for the snow to stay for a while. Most of the time it melts away immediately If it gets really cold, it doesn't snow that often. Usually have to wait for a little warmer of air to blow in with some moisture in it. Last year was pretty cold, and there was almost no snow, same the year before. It just seems to go hand in hand that too cold means that there wont be crap for snow, and then all you have is the stuff on the ground.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. NeedToJump 0 #17 November 20, 2003 I did about 60 winter/snow jumps last year and they're definitely fun, but I've since moved to Florida. I won't be upset if I don't do any snow jumps this year. It's cool seeing people swooping and seeing all the powder get kicked up. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com

I always thought that the clouds were frozen shut & so wouldn't release any snow. Just cause it's dry doesn't mean there's no clouds either. And the stuff on the gound is only at the most 3 inches thick, frozen solid & multiple colors of grey/black (acid snow sucks)! I have heard that they do snow jumps @ sky knights... in WI, where it snows more. perhaps I'll make it up there this year. There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. CanuckInUSA 0 #19 November 20, 2003 I haven't jumped while it is snowing (I have jumped in light rain though and it hurts). But I have landed with snow on the ground and it's fun surfing the slippery surface (assuming the snow is not very deep). I can't wait for this winter as I should be able to surf even further than I did last winter. Amazon 7 #20 November 20, 2003 I went down to Kapowsin this morning.. there were like 10 cars in the ditch on the hill going up to the DZ from Orting. There was 4 to 5" of snow up there.. If it clears.. as it is supposed to... there could be some cool swoopage at Kapow on Sat
 ACMESkydiver 0 #21 November 20, 2003 Ooohh, Jeanne I'm almost jealous! i'm not allowed out a-sky-jumpin' on the weekends, but this weekend I will be in Las Vegas getting the spoiled rotten wife treatment...nails, hair, massage, oh yeah. -Does Ty let people jump up at SDS when it's snowing or will he close it down ya think?~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.
