SkyDekker 1,465 #1 November 19, 2003 I am just wondering what the benefits are to being invisible with regards to people being able to see if you are online? For those who have themselves set to invisible, I ask why?
quade 4 #2 November 19, 2003 Turn the question around. Who were you looking for? Why were you looking to see if they were on-line?quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
gmanpilot 0 #3 November 19, 2003 Holy crap! I've never looked to see before. I would not have guessed there were so many online at 2:45 PM._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.
Casie 0 #4 November 19, 2003 You mean to tell me, I can set myself as being "INVISIBLE"???? How do you do that? KEWL!~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts!
SkyDekker 1,465 #5 November 19, 2003 QuoteTurn the question around. Who were you looking for? Why were you looking to see if they were on-line? Actually I noticed it after I looked at a link in this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=765385;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread namely: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=user_list;sb=user_posts;so=DESC; I was looking for an online talkback moderator earlier, only to see that none were online. Then on the link I saw you were invisible and would not have shown up in that list. Then I wondered what the benefits would be. Now, are you going to answer the question or what? quade 4 #6 November 19, 2003 As I implied in my first responce, for me, it's mostly a privacy issue. Believe it or not, there are actually some people out there that seem to have nothing better to do than "stalk" other people. They wait until you're on-line and then bombard you with PMs. While some of these are legit, some are just freekin' annoying. I also don't like the idea of people knowning exactly when I'm sitting at my computer for a host of other reasons.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
SkyDekker 1,465 #7 November 19, 2003 ahhh ok, thanks anybody else have any different reasons for it?
ACMESkydiver 0 #8 November 19, 2003 Geez, my job would be a whole lot easier if I could set me to 'invisible'. Come to think of it, I might actually start doing well at the casinos, too...Here, I don't mind if people know that I'm sitting at my computer zoning out. Personal pref. Then we'll turn that around...who would you like to set as invisible if you could? My kids upon occasion...!!!~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. sunshine 2 #11 November 19, 2003 I went invisible because of people that would call my cell phone and leave messages saying things like "i know you're online and not out doing something so why aren't you answering the phone?" Got kinda creepy. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
AggieDave 6 #12 November 19, 2003 Damn, Quade is on to me... Actually, I think its a great idea for folks to be able to be invisible. Mainly for the reasons stated above. Myself, I could give a shit if anyone knows I'm online. Since when I'm on I'm posting, it'd be very obvious when I'm online and not online anyways.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #14 November 19, 2003 Yeah, I always have an away msg up. If you want to say hi or chat, send an IM, if I'm there, I'll respond. edit: But like right now, I won't, since I'm at the DZ posting and not at home infront of my computer with the AIM going.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Lee03 0 #15 November 19, 2003 Sounds like paranoia to me. But them no one is going to call me or pm me, I might as well be invisable.. I get the same effect.-------- To put your life in danger from time to time ... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities. --Nevil Shute, Slide Rule
