Monday, I lose my job.

Recommended Posts

I've never lost a job in my life...not even laid off. But this Monday will be my first....Beer!

As of Monday, I will be out of work due to my head injury 12 weeks ago. According to State Law, they only have to hold my job open for that long. They could hold it open longer, but they chose to go by the minimum. I understand, because an empty seat does them no good and they have a business to run. The problem is, I am not completely recovered. I can't even drive due to the damage to my eyesight and reflexes. The doctors did tell me I would recover 100%, but it could take up to 6 months.

So, this is where I'm at. Fortunately, I'm not going to starve or become homeless. I'm just taking one day at a time and my health comes first. Once I am completely well, I have to begin the process of a job search. Where it will lead me, I do not know.

Folks, if you have the opportunity to purchase long term disability insurance, I highly recommend it. When I purchased mine, I never dreamed I would have to use it.

The hardest part is saying good-bye to my friends whom I worked with for the past 6 years. Also, wondering what lies in the future is not pleasant either.

I just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Be safe everyone,
Chris

Not very nice of them. Employers got a huge responsibility.
You've worked there for 6 years. You had an accident, and is recovering.
The very least they could hire a temp and give you your position back when you get well again...

Get well...Speedy recovery....:)

There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

stupid cliche' but: when one door is closed...another will open.

Hoping your new door will lead to great things.

You don't have to Miss your friends. Just because you don't work there, doesn't mean you can't hang out together... don't lose touch.

Glad you are "not going to be homeless".

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Take care! Do what the Doc's say... take it easy and maybe your recovery time will be less than the 6 months!

Hang in there !

When one door closes, another one opens. You never know, losing this job could end up being the best thing that ever happened to you. Grab the opportunity for change and go for whatever your dreams are! Good luck, and I hope you keep healing well. :)

Dude thats just completely shitty on their part!!!

6 years of your loyalty should buy you at least
six months for your recovery...But look at the bright
side maybe its time for bigger, brighter things and
this could turn out to be the best thing that could
happen to you in the JOB world:)Good luck brother!!!

P.S Did I mention how much I hate my god damn comuter! It took me five min. to respond to
your post:(

Chris,

It sounds like you have a pretty good perspective on things.

You have put your health as a priority, and you don't seem to be harboring anger at your employer that will eat you up.

Focus on getting better. Once you have that one accomplished, the rest will follow.

E-mail or PM if you ever need to vent.

Hang in there.

Guess you didn't really want to work for them anyway, huh? ;)

Whenever I've been in a situation like that my mom tells me "God never gives us more than we can handle, even if it sometimes seems like it." There are good things waiting for you once you're fully recovered.

More healing "vibes" and a big  hug coming your way.

Let me share some of my experience.

Life tests you in many different ways, is up to you how you pass the test, what I've noticed, is that the hardest the test, the greatest the reward will be, I've never had the troubles you have, but believe me when I tell you, I've been in very nasty and depressing situations and took a lot of patience, courage, determination and wisdom to continue on, at the end, you'll have a stronger soul and a wiser mind.

You are a very centered and intelligent person, I know you'll deal with this in the proper manner.

Pardon the lengthy post, but I just wanted to let you know that you're never alone, you have friends everywhere, even in cyberspace. ;)

I just recently added additional dis. insurance.
~ $4.62 weekly....$800 extra month in addition to regular coverage.
I'd like to think that the decision was not an easy one for your company to make. And should not have effect on re-hiring in the future..(if desired)
I treat this additional dis. insurance (ING) like my CPR card(sort of)..nice to have hope I never have to use it.

Chris, this has been a really rough time for you.

One of the things I've learned in my life is that when I am on the wrong path, it gets progressively more difficult to keep walking. It's almost like God (or whomever) says something at first, but I don't listen. And then God gets louder and louder, and finally has to drop a rock on my head to get my attention. LOL!! Another thing I've learned is that no matter what happens, there is a gift in it. Some are hidden a bit better than others, but there is always one, if I take the time and find it.

So maybe this is God's way of getting your attention, and letting you know that you were not in the right place for you to be happiest. Maybe this will help you make the change or the redirection towards something else that will be more personally satisfying and more contributory.

If you dwell on the loss, instead of moving forward, and taking things with faith and in hope that all will be well, then you will miss the gift. So go find the gift, Chris. You will be fine in the end.

I learned that lesson many years ago when a good friend of mine became permanently disabled(still able to do just about anything he wants, just can't fly for medical reasons). He had LTD, and it's still paying 6 years later - and will pay him for up to 35 years total. I have never gone without LTD since then. It's pretty cheap for me, about $6 a month. It doesn't pay the best(60% of salary up to $4k a month) out of all the LTD plans out there, but it's easily enough to get by on.

Chris,

I'm really sorry to hear this, but I know you will find another job that is even better! Just get healthy first and deal with finding a job after that:)

You know, all of you folks have told me exactly what my friends and family have told me. It sucks, yes! But it is a chance to start over. As I told so many in pm's, it wasn't my dream job...just basically something that gave me a decent paycheck. There is a little "pissed" in me, if I am honest. But for the most part I am at peace. When something is obviously out of your control, why fret over it?

I know I will land on my feet. I may have PLF'd all my jumps, but this time, I'm landing on my feet.

Thanks friends. I appreciate all the support and positive vibes.

Now that I have more time to Post Whore, maybe it is time to hit that donations button again.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

You're going to be just fine my man. A little R&R followed up by a little bit of change is good for the soul. Keep your head up high, don't drag your feet and go skydiving more... That's all I gotta say my friend, keep it real. Charge, kick ass and don't take any prisoners;)...

Cheers!
Seb

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!

I truly believe that things do happen for a reason - I have a lot of stuff that's happened to me and my family, sometimes years down the track you realised that things turned out for the best. Sure, things I'd like to change, but as you yourself said, why fret about things you can't change.

Chin up and get better soon!!!!!
