ripper0289 0 #1 November 8, 2003 I can't believe I'm not on the way to the DZ right now, it's cold as a mutha but that's what thermals are for. No, tonight is the lunar eclipse, and I have to throw a bone to my other hobby, passion, addiction, whatever. Today I am cleaning the mirror on my big telescope, loading up on film, getting my two scopes and two cameras ready, trying to plan what I'm going to be doing down to the minute. If no one else out there has discovered the joys of amatuet astronomy, please try it. It may not carry that same kick in the ass adrenaline rush of free fall, but it's similar nonetheless. You spend tons of money, you find yourself traveling to far off places, and the thrill when you finally get that image you've been after for years is quite nice. You can start with a nice pair of binoculars and see if it works for you. So if any of you have the time tonight, go outside when it's dark and take a look at this beautiful universe we are fortunate enough to live in, you won't be sorry. dterrick 0 #2 November 8, 2003 Celestron C-90 ... Canon AE-1 and adaptor ... Vivitar doubler ...I'm there! This nice thing about THIS eclipse is that it's dark ouside by 5 PM here so I get the whole thing. Massive park just a few minutes drive away with great open fields ... pity is' frickin freezing outside. ripper0289 0 #3 November 8, 2003 I'm using a 6" Dobsonian, a Meade ETX-60AT, and a Minolta cam. Good luck, hope you get some good shots!
skydivingchad 0 #4 November 8, 2003 I spent the day at the dz which is only 10 min. from me and tonite i'm breaking out my wifes 8" meade that i bought for her a few months ago. $300 bucks used and in mint condition are you using your camera hooked up to your scope or just using it on a tripod? I play around with photography a little and have a roll of 1600 laying around that i was tinking of tring to get some shots of the moon tonite. Any suggestions? andy2 0 #5 November 8, 2003 post your shots please, astrophotography is something I have always wanted to do but could never afford. Kinda like skydiving (except i'm somehow managing to jump my ass off still!). ripper0289 0 #6 November 9, 2003 Will do. I'm always ready to talk astronomy. Here's a star trail pic I took in the Allegheny National Forest. Had the shutter open for almost an hour.
n23x 0 #7 November 9, 2003 Amateur Astronomy, ehhh? It just so happens that I am a CNC machinist for Software Bisque, and am involved in the full construction/assembly/run-in of the paramount ME mount. Begin drooling.... NOW! http://www.bisque.com/Products/Paramount/ Bad news: It's $10k a pop. Good news, it pays me lots of skydiving money! .jim"Don't touch my fucking Easter eggs, I'll be back monday." ~JTFC

kai2k1 0 #9 November 9, 2003 Just came in form outside. The lunar eclipse is just freaking beautiful!!! There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
ripper0289 0 #10 November 9, 2003 OK, it's now after 10 pm, I just shot two rolls of film, saw two meteorites whilst watching the moon, now I'm drinking a hard cider and wondering what the pics will look like. As soon as I can, I'll post the best ones I took. And I'm still drooling over the mount. Skydiving and astronomy, I said it before and I'll say it again, I'd probably have more money in my pocket if I was a crackhead.
Dagny 0 #11 November 9, 2003 Please post your pics when you can! I wanted to watch the eclipse, but all I can get is rain in my eyes. Nasty weather here tonight! Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali
ripper0289 0 #12 November 9, 2003 Well, the pics didn't turn out as well as I would have liked them to, so here is the ones that turned out less than horrible.
