pilotdave 0 #2 November 7, 2003 Well, it's not perfect, but if its a simple file you might just be able to highlight the text and copy and paste it. Just click on the "T" button at the top to be able to highlight. You might need to do a significant amount of reformatting with that method though. Casie 0 #3 November 7, 2003 I've tried that & it won't work either~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts!
Remster 30 #4 November 7, 2003 to do an actual export to word, you need full blown Acrobat, not just the reader. Do a search on "acrobat", this question was asked here a week ago I think.Remster
pilotdave 0 #5 November 7, 2003 Hmm. I'm pretty sure there is software that will convert it (I think Adobe Distiller will do it), but chances are you don't have access to it. You might be able to find some free OCR (optical character recognition) that could convert it to text but thats a serious pain in the ass. What did it do when you tried copying and pasting? Wouldn't highlight at all? Dave

quade 4 #8 November 7, 2003 Just a side note; not all .pdf files can be converted back to text (without going the OCR route). For instance, there's a heck of a lot of stuff out there that, while it looks like text, is actually an embedded .tiff or other type image file. Stupid and wasteful -- yes, but also sometimes the easiest thing for the person to create.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
HARMONROCKETII 0 #9 November 7, 2003 Hey Casie, If you have the full version, you can edit the text in adobe. The bottom left button with a T. Select the pointer to select the text to edit. Works here! John

narcimund 0 #11 November 7, 2003 There are also optional security settings for PDFs. The creator might have disabled the ability to save the PDF, extract text, or modify it without a password. If that's the case, you can retype it. That's all. Sorry. First Class Citizen Twice Over

marcandalysse 0 #13 November 7, 2003 yes, that is one of the main reasons that people publish their documents to pdf format, so others can't use ('steal') their work. one of my profs discovered that other schools were using the class ppt slides that were on the class website, so he converted them all to pdfs.... and the full blown version costs some big $$... marc

Remster 30 #21 November 7, 2003 the T in Reader allows you to select the text. So click and drag the text. If you have full acrobat, then yes, you can type in the document, but not with Reader.Remster
