Conundrum 1 #1 November 5, 2003 I have many people who refer to skydiving as a "hobby". To me, skydiving IS a sport. You compete against other people, teams, etc. Hell, it's even been in the X-Games. Do you ever have people that will argue to no end that it isnt a sport? What do you tell them?

Conundrum 1 #3 November 5, 2003 Oh I have. Mind you, these are people who have never tried it. Mostly all guys... actually, all guys. I just tell them to take off their dress and come try it with me. I guarantee their opinion would change.
skyyhi 0 #4 November 5, 2003 I would just say "oh go jump out of a plane or something". . . quade 4 #5 November 5, 2003 Depends on what sort of person they are; open or close minded. You'll know within the first 10 second of talking with them. If they're actually willing to listen, then it's possible to talk about things like the USPA Nationals. If they're not willing to listen -- fuck 'em. They're a waste of oxygen.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

AndyMan 7 #20 November 5, 2003 Actually, I agree with them. To me, anything where the competition is judged isn't a real sport. This is especially true where any of the judging is based on "artistic impression". Artistic impression in sports? What is this, ballet?!?!? _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. freeflygoddess 0 #21 November 5, 2003 what about tracking comps? Isn't that based on distance?
AndyMan 7 #22 November 5, 2003 I don't think there's tracking comps in the Nationals, but I could be wrong. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

freeflygoddess 0 #24 November 5, 2003 I don't know I was just told that there were tracking comps and after I have my 1000 jumps in that I should do those because of my slow fall rate. Actually, there is a thread in the General skydiving forum about getting on started, but in Moscow.
