RevJim 0 #3 October 31, 2003 Quote830 PM last night i had my final cigarette. Got up for work this morning, felt fine, Only problem is that now that i'm home im eating my ass off and im ready to go grab a pack of smokes. HELLLPPPP Dooooooon't dooooooo Eeeeeeeeaaaattttt!!!! Translation: don't do it dude. The 1st 24-48 hours are critical. I've had some really, REALLY bad, super depressing news the last 2 days. As of yesterday morning, I've been 4 months without a smoke. I have not wanted a smoke in the last 4 months like I wanted one the last 2 days. I will not give in, I did not give in! The cravings are subsiding now, thank God. The first 24-48 hours flushes your system of the majority of the chemicals in the smoke. The next few weeks is breaking the habit of having your hand go to your mouth every hour. Break THAT habit, and smoking is kicked, no problem. Stress will bring back the cravings, but, YOU CAN DOOOOO IT!It's your life, live it! RevJim 0 #5 October 31, 2003 Awsome! Now, prepare to do that again, oh, about 6 thousand times. Really, it does get easier. Hint: When you feel a craving coming on, go for another walk. I almost lost some friends trying to quit in the past. You do NOT want them anywhere near you when a craving hits. It's your life, live it! racer42 0 #6 October 31, 2003 I quite about 3 years ago. No problem. Except on Thursdays. I always want to smoke on Thursdays. Oh and I'm completely addicted to sugarless gum. But seriously, lots of water and exercise. You can always lose the weight. But you can't regrow a lung.L.A.S.T. #24 Co-Founder Biscuit Brothers Freefly Team Electric Toaster #3 Co-Founder Team Non Sequitor Co-Founder Team Happy Sock
kai2k1 0 #7 October 31, 2003 Yep, I will, i think it has to do with breaking learned behaviors, right now im sitting at my PC and normally this is where i smoke alot. i have even caught myself reaching for the invisible pack of cigarettes that used to sit on the computer desk. I think I should have prepared better, like having some carrot sticks and other "healthier" snacks besides snickers and butterinfgers. lummy 4 #8 October 31, 2003 QuoteThanks for the support, i just got pissed and went for a walk outside. And the craving subsided. AWESOME JOB!!! Keep it up, you'll get thru this. The important thing (IMO) to remember is that you are going to keep having the cravings for awhile. Try and recognize them and have a plan what to do when you have them. For me it was a simple acknowledgement of them. I kept telling myself that I'm an ex smoker now and the cravings were normal. It's been 3 years now Oh, another good tip is to drink LOTS of water. This will help flush the nicotine out of your system quicker. Keep us up to date :)I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. GARYC24 3 #9 October 31, 2003 I have been a honest 3 days now. Company had a free lunch today (Baja Fesh..good burritos!)I would usually smoke now. Anyways..ya know that feeling when you really feel like smoking one..well I'm beginning to get off on that feeling! It makes me feel stronger, tougher, and I'm enjoy that crazy little rush of blood to the head! The feeling of getting healthier! It's like the the same feeling as breaking down and smoking one..but without the guilty conscience! Have fun with it..go crazy!

richclive 0 #11 October 31, 2003 Everyone seems to be quitting right now. I'm three days in as well, fingernails have gone, I'm trying not to glare at fellow workers going on cig breaks - little walks to the water cooler have saved me a few times. But with the amount I used to smoke I think "Its a jump ticket every three days".
Nightingale 0 #12 October 31, 2003 don't worry about the snacking... for the next few weeks, eat whatever the hell you want. You've got enough to worry about staying away from the cigs, if a candy bar will help you do that, then do it. so what if you put on a few pounds... you can lose it a bit down the road, and you'll be smoke free! mjosparky 4 #14 October 31, 2003 Hang in there, it will get better. I quit one year ago this month after 35 years. When you get the munches eat pretzels and carrot sticks. Also like someone mentioned, take walks and drink lots of water. Good Luck! MichaelMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
dterrick 0 #15 November 1, 2003 Congratulations! The Rev. is correct - "psycos" (psycologists) tell us it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. Learning to eat will take 21 days and you'll have a replacement habit. Have a beer instead - you're a skydiver (!! JUST KIDDING DAMMIT!!) Seriously, when you get the craving, do something ELSE for 5-10 minutes. Walk around the block. Drink a glass of water (boring, I know but we're supposed to drink lots anyway, right?). Stuck in a Dilbert? Get a cool velcro paintball gun from Here and frustrate someone else. Just don't replace a negative habit with another one. Ok, I guess you could load up www.foodtv.com and sepnd time LOOKING at food or learning to cook gourmet but hey, whatever. Just keep not smoking. On the good side: everything will taste better, hypoxia will set in at a higher altitude, and - wait for it - you'll have more money for jump tickets or new gear. Dave PS: in Manitoba, smokes are just shy of $10/pack on the street and well more than that in the bars!! Nobody dares start and only the truly addicted keep it up. KawiZX900 0 #17 November 1, 2003 I"m quitting tonight.... I want to go by a pack right now, but you wouldn't believe how discolored 3 of my teeth are, the ones just to the left of the front two on the top and one bigun just below em... disgusting as fuk... i won't if you won't. K? Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. jumpinjackflash 0 #19 November 1, 2003 Kai, dude.... My son finishes his third year of football in the morning. Last game of the season. I quit, his first season, standing in the rain, watching him practice. Toughest thing I've ever accomplished. First three months liked to killed me. I chewed, literally hundreds of dollars of nicorette for the first three months, didn't care bout getting off nicotine (should've, it woulda went quicker for me if I did)... Finally made it, after that, I still thought about it. Now, it's over, truly... Very Very Very stressed out in the last four months, but cigs have not been a desire to fix it either. Rock on You'll make it. CIGARETTES ARE FUCKING DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH They make skydiving look like disneyland Statistically, if skdiving followed smokes nums??? It'd probably be like, one out of every three jumps is a fatality.... If you think of it that way, WHO THE FUCK WOULD BE CRAZY ENOUGH??? Major good vibes to you See you at the LEAP SOON???? Without Smokes I hope. jjfIt's a gas, gas, gas...

Rick, dude, hang in there. I just got back froma small.....scratch that, TINY bar. I came home. Why? Beacuse i was drunk? Nope. Because the smoke was so think i could cut it, and couldn't even stand the smell of it, much less stand there and breathe it. Not bad control for only 4 months off the shit. You can do it man. WeakMindedFool 0 #22 November 1, 2003 I with you!!! I'm 45 day's without a smoke after 20 years and it's gotten easier already! My wife told me I could spend all that cash on jump tickets (That's like $250.00 a month) Every time I want a smoke, I think about all those tickets and well, it's the easiest quittings been for me. Make the same deal with yourself and see how it works! jkm2500 0 #23 November 1, 2003 I joined the non-smokers about 10 weeks ago. And every day has been great since. I still get cravings, but not too bad anymore. I gained 30 lbs, but what the hell I am much healthier. I have confidence that you can quit, I am in Iraq and I did. Congrats, and keep it up. joshThe primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
Nightingale 0 #24 November 1, 2003 another suggestion from my bro: put the cash you'd normally spend on ciggies into a jar. Make a deposit into the jar every day you'd normally buy a pack. When you feel the urge to smoke, go count your cash instead and think of all the cool stuff you're going to do with the extra money. Gives you something to do with your hands, as well as a distraction. My bro's goal was some new seats for his 66 mustang... think about all the jump tickets (or new gear!) that cash can buy!
