1930- 20 jumpers Departed from the Open Cockpit

Recommended Posts

Hey kids its 1930

"... most of the men in the photograph were parachute jumpers who were taking part in a promotional event sponsored by the Irvin Air Chute company, a leading maker of parachutes. "

"Perhaps 20 jumpers departed from the open cockpit Sikorsky biplane," says Arthur Liese, whose father has several photographs of the event, including one of the parachutists -- the preferred word at the time -- boarding the large biplane. "

Look at that plane, will ya? That door is aweful skinny with all that gear they had on. But seriously, I dont see 20 exiting the aircraft via the cockpit. Forget a formation and watch the props? Hummm...

Back to the Future?
