dterrick 0 #4 October 30, 2003 Bakersfield? Should be warm enough to pitch a tent in your back yard. Don't have a back yard? Know someone who does? Otherwise, take a preventative measure - cook up some home made chicken soup (tins don't count) and then spike it with garlic. If it works when you;re sick it should work better when you're not. BTW, this bit is said only semi-jokingly. Chef-boy-ar-Dave has spoken D PS: what jumps? Gawain 0 #5 October 30, 2003 QuoteVitamin C and echinacea. LOTS of it. And water...gallons. Echniacea is a falsehood unfortunately. But I second your recommendation about vitamin C and lots of water. I'd expand on that by saying getting your Vitamin C via Apples and Oranges. I eat about an apple a day, and I swear, I haven't caught too many bugs. Who knew...So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! McDuck 0 #6 October 30, 2003 QuoteEchniacea is a falsehood unfortunately. Huh. Learn something new every day. It must function as a placebo then, because I can't tell you how many times I've started to get a cold and taken echinacea and had it back down.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school. hooked 0 #8 October 30, 2003 Take 1000 mg. Vit C tablets throughout the day. I usually take 4 to 5, but throughout the day. Don't take them all at the same time, since your body will only use what it needs at the time. Anyway, it works for me. I always do this at the onset of every cold and continue it until it's over. McDuck 0 #9 October 30, 2003 I bought these AWESOME vitamin C crystals that work wonders. The only problem is that you have to quintuple the amount of Country Time lemonade crystals you put in the glass with them to make it palatable. It works for me, but be ready to spend some time purging out the other end. It must function as a placebo then, because I can't tell you how many times I've started to get a cold and taken echinacea and had it back down. Maybe it's the vitamins you're taking too... I can't find the initial article I saw about it, but one of the bigger problems is that most people don't know what they're getting, see this link: http://www.consumerlab.com/results/echinacea.asp Basically saying a lot of the supplements don't contain everything they state (in terms of quantity and species). Here's an interesting summary from Berkley of all places (take it for what it's worth) http://www.berkeleywellness.com/html/ds/dsEchinacea.php Anyway, back to the cold issue, to each their own, if it works, great. One more piece of advice: WASH YOUR HANDS WITH WARM WATER AND SOAP OFTEN IF YOU HAVE A SICK ROOMMATE WHO'S BEEN WALKING AROUND THE HOUSE TOUCHING STUFF!!So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! skydiverbrian 0 #19 October 30, 2003 Know anyone at the local clinic or ER? One little gram of Rocephin shot in your glute of choice will do the trick. Only hurts for a minute and the pain is reduced proportionately by the beauty of the one administrating the shot!
