MGSkyFlyer 0 #51 October 27, 2003 to stay or not to stay in the airplane... that's a tough question, I was raised around planes and jumpers...so each tugged at my soul. When I hear a canopy rustle my heart leaps and desires to be up there in the sky dancing with God. When I hear an airplane...my eyes look upward and I feel like I am 12 all over again, I want to defy gravity and dance with the birds! I have been on some absolutely beautiful sunset jumps with the sun radiating on my skin, kissing my soul, inviting me to be a part of this extrordinary event...laughing and giggling I always want more. But in that same sunset...I feel like a couple minutes just isn't enough...I want to chase the sun in the plane to make the moment last longer...because that sky, that we jumpers and pilots talk about as home...sometimes a jump...it isn't enough time up in heaven...but then again sometimes it is exactly what we need. Body pilots or jump pilots...same thing, just two people spreading their wings in God's playground... just my 2 cents...
Tonto 1 #52 October 27, 2003 Beautiful. Sounds like you've experienced enough of both worlds to have a valid point of view. I'm only a skydiver, and for me, that seems to be enough. tIt's the year of the Pig.

Guest #54 October 27, 2003 While we're on the subject of aviation quotes in this thread -- "Flying is inherently dangerous. We like to gloss that over with clever rhetoric and comforting statistics, but these facts remain: gravity is constant and powerful, and speed kills. In combination, they are particularly destructive." — Dan Manningham, 'Business and Commercial Aviation' magazine. "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular". — Bruce Landsberg, Executive Director of the AOPA Air Safety Foundation. Here's one for the young chap who went in at Lodi recently-- "Whenever we talk about a pilot who has been killed in a flying accident, we should all keep one thing in mind. He called upon the sum of all his knowledge and made a judgment. He believed in it so strongly that he knowingly bet his life on it. That his judgment was faulty is a tragedy, not stupidity. Every instructor, supervisor, and contemporary who ever spoke to him had an opportunity to influence his judgment, so a little bit of all of us goes with every pilot we lose." — author unknown"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." flygirl03 0 #55 October 27, 2003 frog, when i first started flying, i referred to my plane as "a tin can with wings"..... haven't ever heard anyone else use that term judd, i am a pilot, recently became a skydiver. i am NOT the radical by any means. you will see WHY i skydive, when you make your first jump. im a bit surprised that your mom has issues with the jumping and not the flying. i had way more negativity from family and friends when i told them i wanted to be a pilot. mom doesn't say much about the skydiving and dad says he worries, but neither will ask me not to do it... they see how happy i am good luck ! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ earthbound misfit
Patman 0 #56 October 27, 2003 just my 2- I have been a pilot longer than a skydiver, and I seem to have fun no matter where I am hanging out. We have a few beers and tell our tall tales at both the airport and DZ. Both places get loud, and both are quiet at times. If you haven't done both, you can't really know the difference. Both are awesome in thier own ways. I just flew my plane to Texas from Wisconsin to visit a friend and skydive for three days. Looks like the flying helps me jump at more places and with more people. My small point is that both pilots and skydivers care more about the family they have inherited by doing what they do then worry about who's "bad". When the planes are put away at the end of the day, the family fun begins in both people, pilots or skydivers. I wouldn't give up either one for anything. (Okay, maybe for another rig or so.) Don't tell me I can't! I already know that! Haven't you seen my x-rays?

Patman 0 #58 October 28, 2003 Being a packer fan and from Wisconsin, my AA counselor says I can only tell you I jump and fly sober. from there on I am told the judge has to decide. Don't tell me I can't! I already know that! Haven't you seen my x-rays?
