Who locked/deleted your thread/post?

Just making the point that often times one or two bad apples can ruin things for the rest of us.

If you see that as being a problem on my part because I don't want lots of rules imposed upon my posting then I'm sure you will eventually get over it.

Hey Lisa how come you dont type with a southern Accent;)
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

I don't see why we argue at all on here. This site was designed to allow the exchange of knowledge of skydivers. Thought I know we banter in TalkBack, we should keep it to a lull roar in the other areas. As to why some fight and argue, that evades me.

Can't we all get along?

it ain't even cool. but it happens, and it's allowed.

I agree that it's not cool, and if I see it happen in any of my forums, I usually delete them. Sometimes things to get past me though.

I guess because they taught English in school not Southern.
Oh, and I've been in GA, FL or TX all my life, Amazon.

Its ok.. you're forgiven.;)

Lighten up its a joke.. I wasn't callin you a cracker.. altho that is how many of my relatives would refer to anyone.. well spoken or not.. if they were down from Georgia:P

What Squeek doesn't know is that most of the people in the south these days migrated from the North anyway. Most of my relatives fall into two groups, on the educated side of the family they have nearly no accent , on the other side of the family they have horrendous accents that are sterotypical.. and have the attitudes to match... dumb as dirt and proud of it. BUt I avoid them and thier sheet wearin ways like the plague that they are.

Why does it matter?

Well, if you dont know why your thread was locked/deleted then how can you know what to NOT do in the future?
Contrary to what you might think, it may NOT be self explanitory even after reading the rules.
If you delete a thread and dont want it to come back, you can only help yourself AND the poster by explaining what the problem is. That can help it from being repeated.

While I have come to have a lot of respect for you Lisa, if I were a moderator I would lock/delete your post for being a mean spirited tyrade that probably resulted from someone that pissed you off.

I would then explain to you why I did it. ;)

Yes, this aint no democracy.

Neither is my home, but I'm still respectful to my kids when I lay down the law
and there is no reason that cant be the case in these forums too.

Respect begets respect.

Respect begets respect.

Agreed.

I've received some very nasty PM's in response to locking or removing threads and posts. I've also received some very nasty PM's in response to other moderators locking or removing threads and posts. I know that other greenies have received the same.

There are ways to ask why something was locked or removed that don't involve name calling, accusations of jealousy or unfairness and/or profanity. Speaking only for myself, when I receive a "respectful" question, I will respond with an explanation and I will make every effort to be diplomatic and respectful in my reply. This thread was not started in response to respectful requests for information.

Was I angry when I posted this thread? Not really. Frustrated would be more accurate. Being human, I do sometimes need to take my own advice and step away from the keyboard. In this case I don't feel I was any more or less disrespectful to those this thread was intended to reach than they have been to those who've been asked to donate their time and energy to moderating these forums, and more importantly to me anyway, to the person who pays the bills and does the work that keeps our favorite online hangout up and running.

If I may borrow your parenting analogy - if your child "acts up" in public once, imho it is not respectful of him/her as a person to discipline or correct him/her in public. If, after the correction or discipline is imposed in private, the "acting up" in public continued or occured again, then public discipline/correction would be in order. This thread resulted from at least one such situation.

My apologies if this post is somewhat disjointed... a busy Sunday in the store probably isn't the best time to try to write this but I don't want anyone to feel that I'm ignoring what you're saying.

Lisa,

I appreciate you taking the time to explain what was in your mind especially on a busy day.
It makes what you stated initially far more understandable and less harsh.

Thank you. :)
For myself, I had a post removed once without any explanation and to me it seemed that my post was entirely appropriate to the thread. I prefer to not repeat mistakes and as I am mindful of the feelings of most of the people that read these forums, some kind of explanation would have helped to avoid bad feelings and repeat offenses on my part.

I actually PM'd one of the moderators and asked about it, although I think that that person would agree that my question was respectfully and politely asked. Turned out that it was not that moderator but they DID offer what they felt was probably the reason it was deleted. That reply was also phrased respectfully B| I didnt really agree but this is where the "This aint a democracy" part DOES make sense to me and I let the matter drop.

My kids are not required to agree with me, but I do explain my rationale.

Thank you for explaining yours here today :)

IMHO, you guys take this thing way too seriously.. I have fun in talkback because I can talk about anything from humping to jumping to my kids grades.. There is a titty bar here, weekend numbers that include hump #s, political threads which I ignore and a weekly haiku thread.. The only negatives in this noisy bar are when people start getting pissed off at each other or annoyed or upset with others.. For chrissakes people.. you don't really live here.. you don't have to read that which annoys you or is not interesting to you but why not live and let live? Why do 2 or 3 threads that don't interest some people or perhaps even offend them have to get locked when 8 or 10 people are having fun with them? I feel a little like talkback is going from a noisy bar to an after-church function... Anywya.. I'll do my best not to let it get too righteous.. :S

I recently had a couple of extremely relevant, thoughtful, and helpful posts deleted in a hot tempered thread in the base forum.

When they disappeared, I asked Tom why and he said that he'd deleted everything after a certain point in the thread where everything had gone to hell. Mine weren't removed because they were unwelcome, but because they were positioned after a certain turning point.

If I hadn't asked, I'd be walking around pissed at Tom. I'd have thought I was being unfairly censored. I would be very shy about participating any more. I'd be convinced that Tom was off his rocker and the whole forum was in biased, reactionary hands.

Instead I know he was reasonable, but the reasons weren't obvious.

Good thing I asked.

That's one I've never quite understood...

With great power comes great responsibility. Granted, it's not as though you've got your finger on the button, but you do have the ability to shape, or mold any of the threads. Imagine if Quade went around deleting all the right wing posts in a thread, or modifying others comments to mean something completely different.

I'm not suggesting that it happens, only that you need to make sure that it doesn't (which I think you do) and that we need to keep you honest (if the need ever comes up).
