TitaniumLegs 8 #31 October 20, 2003 QuoteHang around a DZ for a few years and you'll realize that Cutaway is truer then most jumpers want to admit... Yeah, there are so many dropzones with "creeper ramps" and the key to winning the speed star event at nationals is how fast you can fall. We all wear vertical spedometers to measure that. jlmiracle 7 #32 October 20, 2003 QuoteWhen you said GAYEST movies, I thought you were referring to "Interview With The Vampire" Was there cowboys eating pudding in that movie? Cutway was, well, just not exactly that good. See you on flightline. JudyBe kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. billvon 3,071 #35 October 20, 2003 >Like all movies, they have some uninformed sections . . . Well, as it was written and directed by Guy Manos, I don't think you're going to get any closer to a 'real' skydiving movie in mainstream media.
billvon 3,071 #36 October 20, 2003 > and the key to winning the speed star event at nationals is how fast >you can fall. We all wear vertical spedometers to measure that. That's an odd objection. I DO have a vertical speedometer, and it's useful when I'm trying to build big formations quickly. The base can fall too slow _or_ too fast.
TitaniumLegs 8 #37 October 20, 2003 Sure, but we're not so concerned with how fast we fall as individuals, but how long it takes to get there, which involves a lot more than merely falling fast for the first part of your dive. WrongWay 0 #38 October 20, 2003 Cutaway is indeed a shitty movie, and is totally unrealistic, but if ya ask me, they caught the "stages of the jumper" pretty well. The "Im a newbie and will never get it" stage, the "I'm just starting to get it and becoming arrogant as fuck" stage, the "Okay I realize I'm okay but I can learn more" stage, then to the "Everyone looks up to me like I'm some God or something but I'm not" stage. I think everybody goes through all of these, whether they realize it or not, and the camera got all these well. Maybe I'm just overanalyzing it, but it's just MHO. Other than that, yes, the movie was gay as hell. Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.

Karin Sako got a "Woohoo!" on the 124 ways because she transitioned into a no lift head down dive so smoothly and quickly after she exited. A skilled late diver dives as fast as possible for as long as possible, and then flares out of the dive to be able to approach the formation at a reasonable speed. It's certainly not the only skill you need but it's a big one.
AggieDave 6 #40 October 20, 2003 QuoteWe all wear vertical spedometers to measure that. Ahhh, you must mean the Caller ID boxes with numbers drawn on them. Yeah, I had that EXACT caller ID box in my room on my phone when I first saw that movie. That Caller ID box cost me something like $4 at Wal-Mart a couple months before that... Eitherway, it gave me a good laugh.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
DShiznit 0 #41 October 20, 2003 Quote Other than that, yes, the movie was gay as hell. Thank you for agreeing with me. Just food for thought, but I learned this earlier in the thread. Did you know that all "gays" (homosexuals) are bright, well educated, and have a decent income? I didn't know that, just thought I would share. And for the record, before anyone thinks that I am gay bashing, I am not. It's a slang word. BFD.

PhillyKev 0 #49 October 20, 2003 yeah, but you don't hear about polack pride day, or the mongloid parade. And I think it's fair to say nigger hasn't fallen into disuse, I hear people using it on almost a daily basis. Of course usually it's blacks using it... If words like nigger and gay are offensive and those that they are used to represent are insulted by them, maybe they shouldn't use them to describe themselves.
