Is this Photoshopped?

Recommended Posts

I got this picture in the mail today. I was wondering if one of you eagle eyes could tell me if it's shopped or not. The lettering on the right wing of the plane on the right looks a little suspect to me.

I'm pretty sure it's real. A very long lense like the one that was probably used to take this photo "compresses" the image, which can make two distant objects look very close together when they are actually pretty far apart.

The text that came with the photo said that there was damage but both planes landed safely. I don't remember hearing that and it seems like I would. Then again, I don't follow jet aerobatics very much. I'd rather watch Michael Goulian or Patty Wagstaff fly any day.

If you look at the angle that the sun? is shining on the planes it is obviously 2 seperate pictures put together.

"Whatever you say Johnny."

I tried looking that the angle of the sun, but just couldnt see anything that screamed out of place, but then again im just an amateur! :o

Here is a couple of Sean Tucker flying with the Blue Angels. BA #5 and #6 were in a "High Alpha" maneuver and allowed Sean to join up for the pictures. I was told that this was the first time that a civilian aircraft has been allowed to join a BA formation. Must have been way cool.

unless there are two different light sources, its photoshopped. the shadows on the planes are at different angles. whoever did it did a very nice job, tho.

Yep, I would agree. Looks like the plane on the right has the light source from above, while the left plane has a light source from the right.

Excellent job however!!

i don't think it's photoshopped, but it isn't their usual tragectory i think (see my shot, same maneuver, different airshow)... and to have the speed brakes on, must've been a little off on the approach. someone here mentioned the light sources looking like two different places, but I don't see how that could be. top of fore-plane has light on top of wings, opposing craft has shadow there, light on belly, just as he should

anyway, here's my contribution... looks real close b/c it is... although the camera lens is a little deceptive.

It is NOT PSed.

If you look at the light, you can tell. Then you look for other tell-tell signs of a photoshop job, there are a handful of little things you can look for, but they're not there.

What it probably is, is someone taking it on a tripod mounted camera with a telephoto lens. Telephoto lenses can compress images like this, where depth perception is way off. Watch "Good Stuff" all the scenes where it looks like people are in freefall at 400 feet (no not the BASE footage smartass) is done with an extreme telephoto lens on a helicopter. The imagry is compressed thus the background and foreground look very very close.

Same thing here.

Looks to me that the light source is the same for both. It is coming from above. Airplane on the left has a shadow cast on it's right wing from the vertical stabilizer, and right side is shadowed. If it was from the right, the shadow from the tail would be cast to the left over the afterburner and probably wouldn't be a shadow down the side of the airplane.
IMHO it's legit.

OK, I'm a dumbass. Where in the fuck are their engines? :$

Blues,
Dave

the exhaust is the small round end at the tail of the body.....and the intakes are just to the front of the wings on either side of the body.

I think this was Photoshopped. If you blow the image up and look at the wing tips it gets pixelized (if thats a word). So it looks like both have been dropped on to the image.

I'm no expert but it looks suspect to me.
