selbbub78 0 #5 October 13, 2003 I got my nickname, Bubbles, in 1998. Hated it at the time, but it expanded into all aspects of my life, so i learned to live with it, and i find it amusing that there are a lot of people out there that think it's my real name."Women fake orgasms - men fake whole relationships" – Sharon Stone "The world is my dropzone" (wise crewdog quote) "The light dims, until full darkness pierces into the world."-KDM

Guest #7 October 13, 2003 I think the people who give themselves nicknames are arrogant and vain. To date, no one has seen fit to bestow one on me, but I will never make one up for myself, and I will accept whatever is given to me by my skydiving brothers and sisters. When I was at Boeing, one of my co-workers tried to dub me "Winch", short for one of the characters from the M*A*S*H TV show (MAJ Charles Emerson Winchester III MD, played by David Ogden Stiers). It was because I was such a smug know-it-all when I was around him. It didn't stick, tho... I don't know whether that's a good or bad idea, because many nicknames originate in some unfortunate mishap or other very negative incident. In the right circumstances a nickname can be an important source of esprit, but I think the custom has declined because of the influence of street gangs, thug culture, and the rest of it, which poisons the tree of society. The punks are all about aliases and "street names", and I think a lot of more cultured people shy away from nicknames for fear of being thought of as gangstas, or worse, wanna-bes. Personally I think that attitude, if it exists, is misguided. I'd really like to see more skydivers with nicknames, myself. Just MHO..."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

Around it say "I ams what I am's" They thought it was kinda interesting and nicked me popeye, just stayed with me. "I Yam what I Yam" I am not afriad to die, only to die without living.
