Casch 0 #3 October 13, 2003 How is that possible? Is it just when there's a lot of crap in the air like smog and dust and stuff?

jumper03 0 #7 October 13, 2003 excess dirt in the air. I remember it happening in Ft. Worth once - it was really dry out in west Texas and the winds kicked up a bunch of dust/dirt etc into the air, transported it east and viola, dirt rain. It can also happen due to volcanic eruptions. You can get enough ash into the air that it'll rain mud. Essentially, the rain is cleaning the air of crud. Ever notice how "clean" it smells out after a nice rain? One of my favorite times - right after a hard spring rain (and during come to think of it ) JumpScars remind us that the past is real
ScottishJohn 25 #8 October 13, 2003 Sometimes here in the uk if we get a warm air mass moving north from Africa it usually conatains a lot of sand from the sahara and if this warm air mass becomes unstale and turns thundery with rain then you will get slightly muddy rain.---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers
testpilot 0 #9 October 13, 2003 To be even more specific every single drop of rain has to have some sort of dirt in it to form a drop. Even if it is only one dust particle. The more dust particles in the rain drop the more we call it mud. So yes every rain drop is a variant of mud. JohnRich 4 #11 October 13, 2003 QuoteCan it rain mud? Yes, big globs of it! I saw it happen this weekend. I was jumping at Spaceland, Houston, Texas. The runway was muddy, and during takeoff, the wheels of the Otter were kicking up globs of mud and sticking them onto the bottom side of the wing. Then during the climb to altitude, the globs of mud would come loose in flight, and go whizzing past the door, headed back to earth. I kept hoping that they wouldn't splat onto someone's car windshield down below...

juanesky 0 #13 October 13, 2003 There has been many theories about the raining of "stuff" One approach is that Tornadoes and hurricanes can suck bodies of water with the so called stuff in it and throw it high in the air. Thus the fish and other stuff rains...."According to some of the conservatives here, it sounds like it's fine to beat your wide - as long as she had it coming." -Billvon
