Nick of Time-

On a storm-swept day deep in the Alps last June, a Swiss army parachutist on combat exercises missed his safe landing zone and injured his leg upon coming down in rocky terrain. Immobile and lost amid the peaks, he might well have perished from exposure had he not been wearing the right watch for his predicament, the Breitling Emergency. Cool as a Tom Clancy hero, he pulled out a tiny antenna on the watch, activating the built-in microtransmitter. Within hours his comrades homed in on him and returned him to civilization. It was the first life saved by the Emergency and probably not the last.

The Breitling Emergency, which has been on the market in Europe for several years, has finally won approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration as an emergency locator transmitter and is now also available in the American market. It is a breakthrough in consumer microtechnology. No larger than a standard wrist chronograph, it features a tiny radio transmitter that sends a continuous distress signal on 121.5 MHz, the international emergency frequency, when activated. The frequency is continuously monitored by rescue services worldwide, which then will track the signal to its source. The signal has a range of about a hundred miles, can be picked up by satellite, and stays on the air for a continuous 48 hours. For military aviators there is a version that transmits on 243 MHz, the military emergency frequency.

Breitling Emergency Mission watch also called a BACK UP SURVIVAL INSTRUMENT FOR PILOTS.

the site mentions this and you may want to take note of ...
Only 74 Shopping Days until Christmas 2003!

I just had a vision...
via no fault of my own I land off with my good looking friend, I signal for my drive by with my coolio watch transmitter then wink at my friend who produces a vial of shaken not stirred Martinis! ... Our strech limosine ride shows up just as we emerge smiling from under the parachutes all hot and sweaty...

...I dont know where that came from... Jane Bond I guess...;)

When the Spurs won the NBA championships back in 1999 David Robinson bought the whole team and a bunch of coaches etc each one of those watches. That was the first time I heard about them. They are pretty damn cool......

I suspect off-DZ landings is a little out of scope of what they build these for, unless maybe you're hurt.

How about FRS/GMRS radios (Motorola Talkabout and the like). You could equip a whole Otter load for less than the price of this thing. Even if you're out of range of the DZ, you should at least be in range of each other. We give one to everyone on the load when we do night jumps. Came in handy when a couple jumpers got ....uhh... lost.

Bed time...

Another very cool idea I have seen is the Benefon Esc! cellphone.......all the normal features plus a GPS. Best thing is that you can send a msg to another one with the co-ords so you can find each other.

I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter
