RevJim 0 #2 October 7, 2003 Between Ebay, Newegg, and Outpost, I buy most big ticket items on-line. Next is Sams Club and Walmart, then other national chains. It's your life, live it! sburkart 0 #3 October 7, 2003 I've bought 14 or so items off of eBay (bass guitar pre's, amps, cabs, effects), and probably another dozen small ticket items through CD Baby, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Foot Locker and the like. One bad eBay experience was a Godin A4 fretless bass that was obviously damaged before shipping (I think the guys ex probably stomped it on her way out the door- he was such an asshat I don't blame her) and I lost the shpping on that one. CD Baby is very cool- and strange... QuoteYour CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow. A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy. We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved 'Bon Voyage!' to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Sunday, October 5th. I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as 'Customer of the Year'. We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!! Thank you once again, Derek Sivers, president, CD Baby the little CD store with the best new independent music Not ONCE have I received a CD in a gold-lined box from these people. I've been ripped-off I tell ya!
MissMae 0 #4 October 7, 2003 Well, since you asked.... Boyfriend and I just bought a camera from an online store (Broadway Photo out of New York), and had a horrible experience w/ them not selling just what we needed to us. Then the things they sent out on top of the camera were crap, so I called them to send them back and they didn't (actually refused) to take the stuff that I didn't need back.... There is a website out on the internet called bizrate.com and they have postings about websites and how they do business, unfortunately I wish we would have found this website before we had the experience w/ the company that we have had so far... We definitely wouldn't have bought anything from them. On the bizrate website they were actually saying that people who were in the "customer service" field were hanging up on them and cussing them out. WTF???? So, just my 2 cents, but if I encounter any more online stores like this, I'll quit shopping on line all together. REI rocks w/ their online store. My opinion of course. take the time to appreciate the people around you.
Clownburner 0 #5 October 7, 2003 I buy almost everything I possibly can online. I'd be willing to bet I've bought bigger items online than almost anyone, but I don't want to sound like I'm bragging. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
indyz 1 #6 October 7, 2003 I buy almost all of my electronics, movies, video games, books, and music on the Web. Almost always use stores instead of auctions. My favorites are Amazon (books, music, movies), NewEgg (computer parts), Crucial (memory), and GameStop (video games). I get the rest of my electronics wherever I can find a good price, as long as the seller checks out with Reseller Ratings.
narcimund 0 #7 October 7, 2003 I make my living building and maintaining e-commerce sites for companies. The stores I'm responsible for will gross over $6,000,000 in sales this year. I know exactly what goes on on the back end. I have no fear of buying from online stores if I can sense that they're run professionally. That doesn't mean only huge companies qualify. Quite the contrary. I know many tiny shops I happily buy from and some mega-million-dollar sites which I wouldn't trust. Layton 0 #8 October 7, 2003 we buy a lot of stuff online.my wife says that the only thing a computer was really designed for was shopping.as long as they are secure sites and most of them are i dont have a problem with it.course we dont have any of the dreaded credit cards.we have a check card and if someone wants to try to use it well they have a suprise coming as we dont keep a lot of money in the checking account anyway.***if you are going to be stupid you better be tough
Atlas 0 #9 October 7, 2003 Most everything that I don't eat gets bought online :) It's cheaper, most of the time, and has no tax. The shipping is usually cheaper than the tax (8.25%), so it's worth it. Make sure you check out the source before you buy. Amazon.com - no problems Newegg.com - no problems Jazztechnology.com - no problems Tigerdirect.com - no problems There are a ton of places out there... just do a search on google or whatever when you find a new place. Get some reviews on them, and see how they rate.

jfields 0 #12 October 7, 2003 I buy most everything online. Music Computers Videos Original Art (like in my avatar) Pet Supplies Electronics Clothes Books Insurance Education (online classes) Brewing Supplies Hobby Equipment Skydiving Gear Toys etc. I end up getting dragged into the mall about twice a year by some family member. Other than that, forget it. If you are a careful shopper, you have very little to worry about. I've never had a major problem or gotten screwed over by buying online. freeflygoddess 0 #13 October 7, 2003 You can't buy jump tickets online so...I put I am too broke to shop, when really it should say, "I only spend money on jump tickets" I have only actually purchased one thing over the internet and that was a DVD from BestBuy... jlmiracle 7 #14 October 7, 2003 I don't necessarily use Amazon.com but I buy on line all the time. I hate going to stores. The majority of my x-mas shopping is done on line. I have had a few charges that weren't mine on my cc but for very small amounts and my cc company removed them. I love on-line shopping. oldnewbie 0 #15 October 8, 2003 I have been buying more and more stuff online lately!!!! However, I bought something at the end of August, and I never received it. I finally contacted my credit card company and they said it was too late to stop payment!!!! It was!!! But they are now going after this company for me, free of charge!!! They also said that they usually pay card holders back even if they don't collect from the company!!!I guess I'm going to have to be more careful. it wasn't really that much money, but it sure pissed me off!!! And yes, I've contacted that magazine that they advertise in, and their advertisements are going to be cancelled forever!!! Revenge isn't everything, but it sure feels good!! fasterfaller 0 #16 October 8, 2003 Quotei had a similar bad runin with AAA Camera Exchange in new york. called BBB and put a hurtin on um Here's the scoop on New York camera stores . B&h and Adorama are the best in NY and the others are a crap shoot .They will have a low price on a big$$ item like $5800 for a canon 1ds and then comes the hard sell . I am a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals and their online dealers are rock solid to say the least . The $99.00 per year cost of joining was returned on my first purchase . PC mall is one place I buy a lot from and they have some really good deals for NAPP members .

fasterfaller 0 #18 October 8, 2003 One last thing . If you are buying a big ticket item on e-bay and fell you may get burned , ask to go through escrow BEFORE you click the bid or buy it now button . If the seller says no to escrow they might be hiding something . If the auction says it is for preapproved bidders only contact seller to be placed on bid list , IT IS A SCAM . Raefordite 0 #19 October 8, 2003 I prefer online shopping if sizing a product is not a big issue. So rarely do I purchasing clothing, but just about everything else. I find I spend less. No spontaneous "window" shopping. I usually find an idea in a catalog, or similar ad, then search online. That way I buy what I was shopping for and nothing else. No over purchasing. If I don't know the company, I do a BBB check before buying. My favorite is Staples for my business office supplies. They will deliver anything at no additional cost. I just got a damaged file cabinet. The shipper dropped it. No problem! It was picked up and delivered a new cabinet within 24 hours. Now that is service.
