My initial reaction to these comments was to become angry and lash out at these jerks. Then, after thinking on it awhile, I realised I feel sorry for these poor fools living their entire lives in fear of death, which is inescapable. Ignorance or maliciousness? Some of each I suppose, but mostly it looks like a positive feeback loop insult fest. To be fair though, the initial post says Dwain was wearing a cartoon character costume and that set the stage for ridicule.

I'm not sure it's fair to say they're exhibiting fear of death so much as fear of knowledge. They not only announce thoughtless and uncharitable opinions, but they energetically defend them when experts explain the error.

i was to say the least...disturbed.. to read how people can joke about someones death as they did. I to felt the need to lash out, but what woud it solve? I was happy to see that there were those on there who did have a sence of reality and try to tell them fools what life was about, living your dreams. Thats what the guys was doing when he went in and thats what we do every weekend or even every day.

"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and it annoys the pig" - exactly.

Skydiving is easy. All you have to do is relax while plummetting at 120 mph from 10,000' with nothing but some nylon and webbing to save you.

Please let it go. They'll never understand one individual's insatiable drive to live his life on his own terms, rather than by way of what was expected of him.

It's very, very easy to sit in front of a computer keyboard and mock someone who died a tragic death...

...but consider - where was Dwain? He wasn't vegitating at a keyboard! He died as he lived - out there in the front, leading.

Not sitting as a meek, passive follower at a computer screen.

The candle that burns bright also burns briefly; yet, given a choice, I'd rather burn brightly and live a shorter and more productive time than to sit glimmering dimly in a forgotten corner.

You absolutely amazed me, Dwain, with your fearlessness and your initiative. Go easy, brother.

the entire fark.com/somethingawful.com subculture is not worth bothering yourself with

I was a pretty dedicated Farker several years ago when Fark.com was still a "small" site. The quality of individuals that post and visit that site has gotten exponentially worse over the years. There hasn't been an educated comment made on their forums in a long time. The best thing you can do it just let it go and leave them in their ignorance.

There's a reason why I stay away from the forums (except to see PS contests or now audioedits).

You should have seen the shit they were posting about Bonfire after it fell in '99...total ignorance and total disregard for those that were involved.[:/]

a dear friend of mine died flying a birdman suit 2 years ago. I am always sickened when people meet me and find out i skydive and ask "did a guy bounce" or "hey wasn't that guy who went splat" and don't realize that just possibly i could have known that person, he maybe could have been my brother.

just because we're skydivers and do something that is "dangerous" (not really) doesn't mean we don't have feelings and don't react.

i generally tend to ignore those whom make these comments. if they insist and then show up to jump at my dz, or signup for a jump, i politely ask them to show respect or leave
