You have a good attitude that I admire. I have become a victim of society, so that I care more what other people think than how I feel. I admire that you can be happy with yourself. I'll admit that, even when I was unhealthily thin, I still wasn't happy with myself. So props for you, chicky!!!
Ditto, couldn't have said it better. I too am constantly concerned with how I look, weigh, etc. I mean, I don't look in the mirror a lot at all, but it's all on how society expects "us".......WOMEN to look. It really does suck. I am 5'4 1/2 & weigh over 100 pounds as well. I used to only weigh 110 in high school, but all my friends thought I was puking everything up & was tooo skinny. I wasn't puking anything up, but I wasn't even happy with how I looked then when I was skinny. I have some meat on my body now & I'm trying my best to be happy with that & just live my life to the fullest!

Sometimes that's all you can do. If you eat healthy and exercise, and you're happy with yourself, that ought to be good enough.

Blondes do have more fun!
The sad part is that men fall into the trap too.
It is true. I used to be a fairly fat guy. 245 pounds. I ended up going down to 165. Then I hovered at 185 and now I'm up to 200.
I think I need to lose weight. Guys my size are the animal dorks in all the beer commercials. Only the tall skinny guys with the mop-top hair get the chicks.
It's a good thing that my lady thinks I am beautiful. And she is gorgeous (though sometimes she doesn't think so because she thinks SHE needs to lose weight).
It's a sad thing in society. And I'm glad to see that we aren't alone here in America facing that problem.
And good for you, diva. From your avatar, you look just fine.

That's awesome that you were able to lose the weight. I'm in that situation now. About 5 weeks ago I nearly ^%$ myself when I saw I was 275. I'm down to 245 now and falling. Some of us DO need to lose weight, and it's nice to hear of the stories about others reaching their goals.
I think it's terrible though, that a good number of women think that they need to drop more weight. From what I've heard, most men like some meat on chicks. I like physically fit women, not skinny ones. Ok, I like the skinny ones too, I just wish that they weren't so skinny
if you have any idea what I'm sayin...cause I think I'm rambling...ok I'm done now.

She's not fat, just heavy. I think it's the 20lbs of makeup on her face.
I would agree 100% with the body image/personality/inner beauty/healthy vs. skinny posts here. I can't really add anything - they're right on. Be yourself, love yourself, surround yourself with like-minded others.
BUT... we're not talking personal values and judgments when discussing ballerinas - we're talking about job requirements. You need to have s strong fluid body to dance ballet - generally that's going to be thin/lean.
I think the body image problem in this country is due to hypocrisy. Models that are supposed to be projecting our ideal look nothing like what's out there. Skinny has been our 'ideal' for over 50 years and we're doing nothing but getting fatter (the country as a whole).
People say "Models have to be skinny - the clothes would look horrible on anyone bigger." Or "Who wants to look at chubby girls in fashion ads?"
What does that say that we can't even look at ourselves? How can we not have body image problems?
Anyway, other than dancers being human and being susceptible to the same body pressures that all women are exposed to, they do have to maintain a certain body standard to be good at what they do.
Edited to add: just like jockeys.

that's just disgusting. 5'7 and 109 lbs??? She's a toothpick! grrrrrrrr, stupid media

Yeah, I don't particularly like when they are too skinny.
A guy my size could snap her ike a toothpick. How could I live with myself after that????
Women should be soft...
