If she's considered FAT...

Skinny. I will tell you because I know about this and eating disorders. 90 pounds is skinny or less. Any guy who disagrees with me is lying.

Do not tell me that a cute little hottie with bouncing tight breast and a tight little 90-100 pound body is not what they like.

I personally do not think skinny is average anymore, what should be 110 pounds lets say for a girl of 5'-5'4. This is tiny, but now, in these days, it is not actually what one will call skinny.

Im an aerobic instructor and Im around women all of the time that want to be 90-100 pounds and they already look fine.[:/]

If the dudes can not lift this girl in the air it seems to me that they are just used to very skinny girls. I guess thses guys need to pump a little iron.

Unfortunately, ballerinas live by a different standard, which I personally think is sort of silly. However, models (not supermodels, but models in general) live by the same sort of standard. They have to look like toothpicks, like store dummies, and it's unrealistic.
I am 5'3", and let's just say that I'm MORE than 100 pounds, and even though I feel like I could stand to lose 5-10 pounds, I feel that I am by NO MEANS fat. If I weighed 100 pounds, I would be unhealthy. I've been down to 105 before and looked like the walking dead...
It's a matter of body type for starters...I just hate the standards today. I'm not saying that we should go back to Marilyn Monroe as a standard, but come on, at least be realistic!

I'd say we should go back to the 'healthy' standard.

Personally, I like a woman with some meat on her bones...I like to grab :)

Me thinks the boys in the Bolshoi... may just be whimps.....I bet I could lift them without a problem;)

Yeah, I'd pay serious money to see ballet on the TallGuy-Amazon scale!

Ah Jeanne! I'm cracking up! I'd love to see you walk out of the wings in a tutu, hands on hips, glaring at the little wussies.

"C'mon Ivan! Freaking throw me!"

I find this to be so sad. I mean the images that the young girls(and women) are trying to live up to today are more the exception, not the norm. The sad part is that men fall into the trap too.

I am not tiny, but I am happy with me. I had lost a good bit of weight years ago, but I was too thin. Now I'm back to the way I was and couldn't be happier. Thin or thick, it's about being happy with yourself.:)
Besides....Twinkies help with my fall rate!;)

You have a good attitude that I admire. I have become a victim of society, so that I care more what other people think than how I feel. I admire that you can be happy with yourself. I'll admit that, even when I was unhealthily thin, I still wasn't happy with myself. So props for you, chicky!!!

Thanks! It took me a long time to get to this point. I always used to worry about what other people would think of me. My mindset now is that this is me and if someone doesn't like it then that's their problem. Besides there are a lot of people that are beautiful on the outside, but are very ugly on the inside.:)

Ditto, couldn't have said it better. I too am constantly concerned with how I look, weigh, etc. I mean, I don't look in the mirror a lot at all, but it's all on how society expects "us".......WOMEN to look. It really does suck. I am 5'4 1/2 & weigh over 100 pounds as well. I used to only weigh 110 in high school, but all my friends thought I was puking everything up & was tooo skinny. I wasn't puking anything up, but I wasn't even happy with how I looked then when I was skinny. I have some meat on my body now & I'm trying my best to be happy with that & just live my life to the fullest!

Sometimes that's all you can do. If you eat healthy and exercise, and you're happy with yourself, that ought to be good enough.

It is true. I used to be a fairly fat guy. 245 pounds. I ended up going down to 165. Then I hovered at 185 and now I'm up to 200.

I think I need to lose weight. Guys my size are the animal dorks in all the beer commercials. Only the tall skinny guys with the mop-top hair get the chicks.

It's a good thing that my lady thinks I am beautiful. And she is gorgeous (though sometimes she doesn't think so because she thinks SHE needs to lose weight).

It's a sad thing in society. And I'm glad to see that we aren't alone here in America facing that problem.

And good for you, diva. From your avatar, you look just fine.

That's awesome that you were able to lose the weight. I'm in that situation now. About 5 weeks ago I nearly ^%$ myself when I saw I was 275. I'm down to 245 now and falling. Some of us DO need to lose weight, and it's nice to hear of the stories about others reaching their goals.

I think it's terrible though, that a good number of women think that they need to drop more weight. From what I've heard, most men like some meat on chicks. I like physically fit women, not skinny ones. Ok, I like the skinny ones too, I just wish that they weren't so skinny :S if you have any idea what I'm sayin...cause I think I'm rambling...ok I'm done now.

I would agree 100% with the body image/personality/inner beauty/healthy vs. skinny posts here. I can't really add anything - they're right on. Be yourself, love yourself, surround yourself with like-minded others.

BUT... we're not talking personal values and judgments when discussing ballerinas - we're talking about job requirements. You need to have s strong fluid body to dance ballet - generally that's going to be thin/lean.

I think the body image problem in this country is due to hypocrisy. Models that are supposed to be projecting our ideal look nothing like what's out there. Skinny has been our 'ideal' for over 50 years and we're doing nothing but getting fatter (the country as a whole).

People say "Models have to be skinny - the clothes would look horrible on anyone bigger." Or "Who wants to look at chubby girls in fashion ads?"

What does that say that we can't even look at ourselves? How can we not have body image problems?

Anyway, other than dancers being human and being susceptible to the same body pressures that all women are exposed to, they do have to maintain a certain body standard to be good at what they do.

Edited to add: just like jockeys.

Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
