JamesNahikian 0 #32 September 29, 2002 For me, it quiets the issue of when to replace the hook knife I lost recently. Hope the rest of your trip is just a notch less fun. D. James Nahikian CHICAGO
brianthomas1966 0 #33 September 29, 2002 waiting for the video to download. What was the number on the pucker factor? (scale of 1-10) the stills give me a 9! Brian BTW - what is the slider up opening? do you not use the slider up when base jumping?
Viking 0 #34 September 29, 2002 wow good show man. Are lineovers a frequent thing in BASE?I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin
ernokaikkonen 0 #35 September 29, 2002 >BTW - what is the slider up opening? do you not use the slider up >when base jumping? A "Slider up"-jump is done from higher objects(4 seconds freefall or more). The slider is packed up like with skydiving canopies. "Slider down" or "Slider removed" jumps are made from low objects(up to 4 secs freefall). The slider is either packed at the lower end of the lines or removed altogether. Removing the slider makes the openings much faster. Erno
themaninblack 0 #36 September 29, 2002 first off, congrats on the dive tom that was wild gave me the shivers just watching it....you must be one damn survival-prone human being. having never had a lineover i have NO idea how well ill handle it myself come the day, let alone near a cliff! darwin was right.....kid whos clearheaded enough to clear his lineover and land untouched gets to grow up to have kids of his own, or something like that...... second....just how fast does a base canopy open anyway? (in feet or seconds) i dont base and im still a novice skydiver but i DO know my pd210 snivels for about 7-800 feet easy...im not sure about exact time for the deployment of the pilot itself or feet taken to throw it out but i routinely dump canopy at 3500 feet and am not in the saddle fully deployed till 26-2500 feet...this thing opens so slow even if i dont roll the nose at all, just fold it over once, it still opens super soft and so slow it almost makes me nervous....part of that im told is i only weigh 135 lbs without gear so im underloaded, but still....the long deployments are the reason i tend to prefer to dump canopy a bit on the high side. and whats the fastest deploy you can get out of a base rig? how LOW can you go?evolution WILL be served, one way or another!!!! im not jumping, im imitating a reluctant meteor. Not so much what you did during packing. More like a "Bad Luck" opening. Canopies do funky things when they open. Especially BASE canopies. They normally open a bit more violently than your average free fall canopy and that CAN cause more complications such as this. Nice pics...all I got was audio on the work computer. I'll watch it when I get home.
