Who has not jumped a C-182?

Recommended Posts

I like to do hop n pops as much as I like to go to full altitude. I prefer a 182 for the hop n pops because theres less forward throw. The really good guys hang from the wing by their feet, flip you the bird with both hands and than drop. We're getting our first week of rain, soon to be followed by months, so I'm looking forward to jumping the 182 this winter. If you haven't jumped a 182 I highly recommend the experience.

especially wingsuit out of them.. going out backwards out of a 182 (i.e. facing the tail and pushing off) actually makes the exit feel sorta like a heli exit.. you actually fall before you start to fly..

Thats something i have wondered about. I might have to talk to you some more in the Bird-Man forum about that.:)

i learned on a 182 and i was scared to death on every one of them...it took me a while to appreciate the old bird but now i love them...the only problem is in hawaii you will never go over 8,000 unless its the last load on an early day or you happen to get the dz manager to go with you....I need to try the bat exit but the pilot is afraid the wing will come off:S

C-182sand c-206s are very much standard fare at most Canadian DZs. We are starting to see bigger jumpships at some places, but if you jump here, you will more than likely jump a sardine-can cessna.

Do I like it? Not particularily. I could do without the 20-30 minute ride to altitude, specially on a really hot summer day.

Now that I read this thread though, I feel a certain amount of pride... Spotting appears to be a forgotten art. We actually get to chat with our pilot about upper winds and discuss jumps run passes while looking at the arial pic. (They DO serve a purpose!!)

And there is NOTHING that can descibe the experience of smacking your chin/arm/leg/helmet/various body part on that jump step on your way out!!!!

Cheers

Marz

Aggie, only 4 jumpers in a 182? all of the 182s I've been in (4) could carry 5 jumpers.

5-jumper 182s are not common. Those are wide-body 182s that have been STCed for 5 jumpers. Even then, its a question of weight and balance, if you have a couple guys that are my size, then 5 people would most likely be over weighting the aircraft.

of course, the people who haven't jumped C182s are always so confused when we talk about the spots to sit in them: student, JM, back-to-pilot, and the-back.B|
I have jumped with people when they are doing their first jump outta a C182, and its pretty entertaining to watch em squirm as you explain how to crawl out on the strut :D

OMG, that is so true!! They never know how to sit in the plane. I love having to spot for those people too since they generally don't know how to.

the only chance i get to jump out of something OTHER than a C-182 is when i go to boogies, but hell, i have only been to one of those. i will admit i wasn't looking forward to jumping out of a C-182 after i jumped out of a sky van all weekend at freaks. but, hey, it's a plane. and i won't complain as long as i can jump out of it.

I have maybe 500 out of a 182.

I have another 2000+ out of 185's, 206's, 207's and 210's.

I've done 16 ways out of 182's and 12 ways out of a pair of 206's.

Were it not for Cessna's - I would never have kept jumping. They are at the core of our sport.
