freeflir29 0 #1 September 24, 2003 OK...so I made the mistake of playing a quicktime clip. Now the freakin thing is my default player. Which I hate. I would much rather use Windoze Media. How do I get rid of the quicktime without totally uninstalling it?
skybabe76 0 #2 September 24, 2003 You can change the file type (.wav, .mpg) to start up with another application. You can do that in Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options. Are you computer literate? I can walk you through, if you like. What type of file are you trying to play (.mpg, .wav, .mp3)? "If you're going to be stupid, you better be tough!" BlueEyedMonster 0 #3 September 24, 2003 Easier way... Open media player... Pull down TOOLS... then click OPTIONS. Then click the FILE TYPES tab. You can select them all there. BTW... Did you get a new computer yet?
freeflir29 0 #4 September 24, 2003 Here's the problem.....I have my Windoze Media player set up to play all types. BUT!!! That damn Quicktime takes over as default if play just one file. I hate that player and want to get rid of it. I stripped it off my last computer. I'm trying to figure out how to change back to Windoze Media with out uninstalling Quicktime. freeflir29 0 #5 September 24, 2003 QuoteDid you get a new computer yet? Yep...after talking it over with my friend he suggested a Dell. He said he really couldn't save me too much money and of course if he built it...it would have NO support. So...$1020 and some change later I have a new Dell with 17" monitor. It's nice. freeflir29 0 #7 September 24, 2003 Never mind....I just got mad and hit the uninstall. I HATE Quicktime!!!! But....it's gone now.
BlueEyedMonster 0 #8 September 24, 2003 QuoteNever mind....I just got mad and hit the uninstall. I HATE Quicktime!!!! But....it's gone now. Well you will need it to play the .mov files that some crazy skydivers use. But, you can reinstall it... just read the install options carefully. If you uncheck the right boxes, it won't try to be the default player.
freeflir29 0 #9 September 24, 2003 Quote If you uncheck the right boxes, it won't try to be the default player. That is what pissed me off. I had never even used it before. I just happened to click on a .mov file and it just helped itself to being my default player. AHHHHHHH.....have I mentioned I hate Quicktime.
BlueEyedMonster 0 #10 September 24, 2003 I hate QuickTime too. It took me too long to figure out how to get that stupid blue Q out of my system tray. (Icons by the clock)

It hides....just waiting to spring on an unsuspecting porn surfer!!!!

Casch 0 #13 September 24, 2003 I am VERY touchy when it comes to programs running in the background, I keep a daily tab on all the processes running (hit ctrl+alt+delete and click on processes), and I end any process that I'm not using or is unfamiliar, and I also run anti-virus/spyware programs daily.
