chachi 0 #1 September 18, 2003 do the rest of you think it is a total joke the trade in program. Wow, an entire $60.00 of the purchase of a new cypres. I mean if you want a real program how about we will give you $500.00 of because we built a product that is throw away useless after 12 years. Just my opinion. ~Chachi

174fps 1 #7 September 18, 2003 How much do you want for a 12 yr old computer? How about a 12 yr old TV? 12 yr old car? US$60 is better than a kick in the ass Andrew
airgord 1 #8 September 18, 2003 Well, it could be worse, a 12 year old useless piece of crap that you get to throw away, or 60 bucks credit off of a new one. The "rumor "about the existing units is that the manufacturers of the components (not the unit itself) will not guarantee they will operate at nominal for any longer, thats the "rumor". Airtech had to put a life limit on their units to protect themselves and maybe us too. I don't like it much either but piece of mind is priceless. Anybody remember the Astre?? billvon 2,995 #13 September 18, 2003 >Oh? >Didn't know that was an option. Certainly not recommended, but a way to keep using a cypres that at least won't put the DZ at risk for problems. If a rigger signs it off it's legal to jump.

TaeKwonDoDo 0 #15 September 18, 2003 I think testing it is worth the $60. But if I test it as I zoom through 12-1300 feet to have it fire between 750 and 800', doesn't this imply that, in order to prevent two canopies out that I HAVE to RELY on it... I mean, I'm not going to fall through to 500' and THEN pull...(oh yeah... go for the reserve in either case...) But wait - If I rely on it, then people won't jump with me as I'll be viewed as some newbie who NEEDs one and will be identified as part of the "Cypress Generation". On a smarter note - If the Vigel (or Astra) people were smart at their marketing, they'd pony up $60 (or even more) to capture a large portion of that installed base of Cypress'!!! Hmmmm.... wonder if they need someone new in there marketing department... - Jeff "That's not flying, it's falling with style."
turtlespeed 220 #16 September 18, 2003 I never, ever, suggested that YOU be the dummy. All I was saying was that if you took a dummy out on a hop and pop, you could drop him and test it and the reserve too.....never did i say that the dummy should be an actual human. Thank you for letting me clear that up. That could have been a serious oversight.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Aviatrr 0 #19 September 18, 2003 QuoteTest it! Full sized dummy and and an old rig....with a good spot... It was done at a DZ in Florida early last year....with a rig that had not had a reserve repack in over 10 years. The Cypres fired when it should, and the reserve opened beautifully. Unfortunately, the dummy lost a leg on landing.... Mike

Tonto 1 #21 September 19, 2003 How about putting the unit in a small box, attached to your chest strap - callibrated to 6000ft (as an example) and doing a regular skydive? New cutter - and you're on your way. tIt's the year of the Pig.

Thats $15 for a years useage and he doesnt even have to pay for any maintainance costs. His rig's even up for re-pack at the same time that it runs out.
