vonSanta 0 #1 August 31, 2003 Lots of people from my club were in Russia this summer (cannot recall the name of the DZ they went to). 15 minutes calls, always. If there was gonna be more waiting than that, they ordered up another An-28 or a Mi-8. The DZ was run extremely professionally according to those from my club and although few spoke English communication was possible in various ways (including learning the Russian phrase '15 minute call' Facilities lacked but were under construction, but they could set up tents or live at cheap hotels. Coaching lacked somewhat too, but the DZ operators were working on that as well. Must be run by the Mafia, because things are getting done there. And the price? $9 for a 4000 meter jump, including pack job. Bit over $7 without. Jump ships were An-28s and Mi-8 helicopters. No price difference between the two. They looked well maintained, were serviced on the ground regularly and fairly new. For Europeans, this might be a good alternative to taking an expensive trip to the US. Some things lack (good communication, coaching, windtunnel, facilities) but for those wanting lots of jumps for their money, Russia is right now unbeatable. If the testimony of the people I've spoken to holds true. The local Russians were initially hostile though and only warmed up (or became indifferent) once they learned what those westerners were doing there. Americans in general are judged to be quite open and friendly (particularly compared to the somewhat restrained Scandinavians or downright hostile Russians), so that's a plus for the US. I'm going next summer to see for myself. Have my doubts about safety, although those I spoke to said it was run very professionally. I just wonder if those prices can last or whether they'll increase as it gets more popular to go for a skydiving vacation in Russia. $7.50. I could get three jumps for the price of one, and it ain't too expensive to travel there from where I live. Any thoughts on this matter? ltdiver 3 #4 September 1, 2003 QuoteRussian DZ's are diverse. You will not be disappointed if you visit some top DZ near Moscow. World champions train there Actually, they train there in Moscow and many other varied places, depending on the weather and the going price a DZ is charging at the time. They've been known to travel from Siberia to the United Arab Emerites to FL to train. In fact, their National team is one of the few who've been able to train at Fort Bragg's wind tunnel....until SkyVenture was born. They are a great group of skydivers who work very hard at their craft. Their 8-way team even has Excaliber right now. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

LittleSkyWitch 0 #9 September 2, 2003 The question of the geographical centre of Europe is as disputable as the question "if there is a life on Mars". Moreover, there are some central points of Europe as the methods of its calculation are different. Inspide of the circuit or tetragon, Europe doesn't have any exact central point, but the most approximate and recognized is near the town of RACHOV in Western Ukraine. According to some informational sources a statue of Jesus Christ is being erected in this very point. A chapple and a touristic complex will be built in the statue area either. Study geography, fellow The area covered by Europe (including the various islands) certainly has a "center of gravity" which can be readily calculated using standard methods....
